Worst FF you played?
the drawing system was horrendous for OCD gamers like myself, i couldnt go anywhere without stocking 100 of every type of magic =(
Really agree with you there, I'm not proper OCD but I like to have 100 spells all the time. Have 97 or 89 spells pissed me off and it just ruined the game, drawing magic was a boring chore and junctioning wasn't anything special I thought, I prefer the traditional theme like VI or IX. Also, the levelling in FFVIII was awful in my opinion, plus the limits were annoying and the weapons upgrade idea was pretty lame too.

The story however was amazing, I'd place VIII as 2nd/3rd worse behind XII and possibly X-2 (because of it's story, but the battle mechanics were top notch).
No, I get that you are joking. But at the same time, you are saying you didn't like the draw system. Even though it added more strategy to the game than just spamming magic.
How did it add strategy, characters didn't have classes and if you kept up to date with drawing magic there wasn't any need to excel at magic but not strength for example. You could just boost all your stats available as long as you spread your GF's properly. If every character has the same magic in stock and available things to junction it too then they all turn out pretty similar.

Nowhere near as much strategy as having dedicated classes like a theif, white mage, black mage, warrior, support magic etc.

I already explained it. Every spell you used dropped your stats. The main issue that 90% of the people that played it didn't level up because they didn't have to. And the standard leveling for the enemies was too low. Go play the game again and level up a bit. Spamming magic lowers your stats and requires you to conserve it.

And which FF are you referring to for the 'dedicated' classes? FFX? lol. The strategy for that was kind of thrown out the window since 1. you could change classes in the middle of battle. And 2. you fought essentially the same set of enemies (with a different type of element) the entire game until you got to SIN. It was pretty much a given that you needed, Auron and Luna in your party for 90% of the game.

that's like one of my only complaints about X
the colour palette swap of those same 3 enemies throughout so many areas of the game, lame!

The different dress things in X-2 was pretty awesome.

I completed the game and all it's side quests without barely using magic or grinding, it was just draw magic and attack, draw cure and cast it on yourself etc. You never use so much magic during a fight that your stats drop dramatically. The stronger magic was totally pointless because it had more effect junctioning it which rendered it useless in battle, like you said yourself, you need to reserve magic and it most fights can be won with attacks.

Once you get Aura, which to be fair is pretty easy if you convert things, then you can just cast it on squall & Zell when they can deal 9999 damage (which again is easily achievable with just drawing magic/converting it), then even Ultima Weapon is fairly easily defeated, there really is limited strategy in that game.

I wasn't referring to X I was referring to VI, VII, IX mainly. While VII didn't have classes their stats were set out nicely enough to dedicate someone as a caster, someone can attack, some were better at stealing or manipulating than others or were able to withstand magic better etc. VI and IX had classes if you didn't notice, I don't know why you assumed I was talking about X?
By FF3 do you actually mean FF3? Or FF6 (the third released in the US). Because FF6 is by far the BEST FF game, at least in my opinion.
I always call them by their actual names - FF6 is my second favourite after 7 (Because of Kefka).

Just wondering. I was gonna have to throw some internet punches if you actually thought FF6 was the worst FF.

Now are you saying you didn't like Kefka and that's the reason that FF7 is considered the 'best'?

I personally loved Kefka. I thought he was pretty sweet. One of the best villains there is. I mean, cmon, he poisoned a river to kill an entire village.

I assumed X because 90% of the people on these forums are obsessed with FFX. Even more so than FF7, for some reason. As for FF7, I honestly never once even glanced at the character stats because they didn't seem to matter at all. I put what I wanted on each character and still destroyed everything I came across in the game easier than everything I came across in FF8. The only 'difficult' bosses in FF7 were the last two weapons, which are completely optional. I know it's all opinion, but aside from those two weapons, I can't remember a single difficult battle in all of FF7. So using FF8 "was too easy" as an excuse makes me laugh. Especially when the last boss is considered one of the hardest of all the FF games.

Well, storywise i would have to pick FFXII, but i actually enjoyed this game quite a lot and did every quest and hunt. The world was very well put togheter and had great style, problem was i didnt feel any connection to the characters.

On the other hand FFIX had a nice story, nothing major, and had hidious characters and locations imo, so this would be my choice.

I had more trouble beating Lost Number in FFVII than I did against that Omega Weapon in FF8. I've played the hell out of each of them and I think I've got quite a valid point of view, that FF7 is much harder if you don't grind. In fact, the Weapons are impossible to beat without major grinding, can't say the same for Final Fantasy 8, I spent about an hour on cactuar island towards the end then could defeat everything in the game.

I don't grind in Final Fantasy games I just play like normal travelling from point A to B and draw 100 spells of what I come across in FF8. I easily defeated everything in the main story with just attacks, basically, and the odd status magic. No matter what you say, you can't do that on Final Fantasy 7. Try beating Demon gate without grinding, it's damn tough and requires perfect strategy and quick thinking.

I think FFIX is a better final fantasy than both of them anyway.

My pick would be FFXII, it was good and I completed it & side quest. But it just didn't have the right ingredient to make the story memoriable like FF7.:( So basically without a doubt everyone in here liked FF7?

FF7 = RPG KING FTW:2gun:

:dunce

You being serious? I meant it the other way around, I liked it so much because of Kefka, not that he spoilt it and thats why its my second favourite. 6 is good, but it cant touch 7 IMO, most likely because 7 was my first FF - like many others in the UK and Europe.

Single worst FF game - FF1... The only reason it needs to exist is so they could get onto the betters ones, which were all of them...

Unless you count Mystic Quest in the series, then THAT would be the worst.

Oh, and for my European friends, I'm NOT referring to the game on the gameboy referred to as "mystic quest" which is actually Seiken Densetsu. That game actually rocked pretty hard even if it was overshadowed in every way by the next two games in the series.

I was going to say FFXII, but than I noticed that the title said "played".

I watched the computer play a lot of FFXII, but I really never did much of anything.

Whoever came up with the idea of you simply navigating a character through game spaces while the computer automatically handles the actual gameplay aspect should be barred from developing games. The dice rolling system from Risk was more immersive.

lol. If you've spent so much time with them, then I think you'd know that in FF8 the enemies level up as you level up. Meaning the more grinding you do, the harder the game gets. This kept it easy for newcomers and allowed "hardcore" players to get through tougher battles. I'm serious. Go play FF8 and max out your level. It's a much harder game than FF7 is. Sure you can play extremely cheap in FF8, but you can do the same in FF7 as well. Knights of the Round anybody? Or how about Quadra Magic or whatever linked with w-summon so you end up using Knights of the Round like 4 times, then you can mime it and use it another 4 times. And if you take the time to max mime out and duplicate it you can do it again....That's the cheapest spell/summon from any RPG game 12 times in a row.

Well the hoops you have to jump through to be able to do all that stuff isn't exactly a walk in the park

anyway, arguing the difficulty of FF games is pointless considering for the most part they're all extremely easy

This is actually a very good point. Hell, Breath of FIre 2's intro bosses were harder than just about every Final Fantasy boss. Remember Augus? Hell, if you didn't push Katt out of the way you had one less character to fight him with. It was fairly difficult for it only being like the 4th or 5th boss in the game.

I wouldn't say worst, that's a harsh word, so far no FF I've played disappointed me (I haven't played X-2 cuz I don't acknowledge it as a real FF ¬¬). But I can name the weakest FFs I've played.

FF II for the leveling system.
FF VIII for Story/Characters.

I actually liked some elements of the XII characters
mainly there was the interesting group dynamics, Ashe actually came across as a Princess (completely different social class) and then you had Vaan and Penelo messing around and giggling in the corner (completely detatched from the serious conversation Ashe would be having with Balthier) and then Fran's close friendship with Balthier
It was all very subtle but the different little cliques within the party were really interesting to me, rather than just having everyone on an even keel, their backgrounds really shaped their character
Having said that, this is also where XII falls short, while there is the interesting group dynamic, the characters don't really develop themselves for the most part, which is something FF is usually very strong with

FFII's leveling system was a good idea IMO but it just wasn't executed properly. Of course it was just about the first time a system like that was tried, so I can forgive them for that.

As for worst FF game, I would probably say either VIII or X-2. Both games had their good aspects, but they both disappointed me greatly.

I can't believe all the people on here bashing XII's story. It might not have been the most mainstream tale to tell, but the writing was very deep and well thought out. It was a very mature story, if not a tad slow.

And to the one person who said Tactics was the worst, you clearly just don't like SRPGs, as Tactics is one of the best you can get. The game balancing, story, and characters were amazing in that game. Sure, no game is everyone's cup of tea, but that is far from a bad game in any respect.

It was definitely the Sphere Grid that put me off FFX.
I also thought it took too d**n long to level up your characters in FFIX
