I thought they would just match Sony but they went way beyond that.

Later this month Microsoft will release their new ‘Metro’ Xbox 360 dashboard to all users. Currently open to beta testers, the new dashboard shall introduce a wide array of features that shall excite the 360 userbase. A small glimpse of what is to come was made available last week when Xbox.com underwent a transformation in design and introduced the use of ‘Beacons’– full details and images can be found here.As Microsoft detailed at E3 over the summer, the dashboard update will bring ‘Cloud Storage’ to the Xbox 360 allowing for easier cross-system management of save files & your Live profile.Today the official memory figure has been revealed and it’s quite a bit larger than Sony’s 150MB offer to PlayStation Plus subscribers. Xbox 360 users will be given a total of 512MBs of Cloud storage space, which should be more than plenty for save backups.

I have 500mb of my 511 mb remaining ;)

Though I am curious how they decided with an odd number. Why not 500mb even?

Wow, that's awesome. And we can access these saves anywhere as long as there's an internet connection? Maybe I don't need to dedicate a USB drive to carrying my 360 saves around any longer. I really wish this update would drop already.

It has to do with how memory is organized.

Also I believe that the memory units went up to 512mb. (also the later core original design 360's had 512MB storage on board).

This is in addition to how memory is calculated, but provides reasoning for why they didn't pick a different value like 256MB or 1GB (1024mb), ect.
