Anyone here use ethernet cables on their 360 other than the supplied MS one that comes in the box ?

reason why i'm asking is that i'm looking to move my 360 to another TV and still want to play online but the MS cable is not long enough so i need to know if there are any other cables that i can use . That said i'm also upgrading my broadband and getting a new gold subscription card for LIVE .

I also don't understand this cat5 , cat6 , cat7 stuff when it comes to cables . Which is the right one for my 360 , cat5 , cat6 ???

Help anyone
Thanks

nope the cable that come with the 360 is the same as any other ethernet cable you can buy right now. You're fine.

It's a standard 10BaseT Cat5 cable, that means you can use any standard network cable, and just to boost your confidence further - I am using a cable which didn't come with the 360 (wasn't long enough)

Another one to make you feel better.

I'm currently using a 30 meter cat 5 to connect my 360 in my room to my Pc in the office, via the attic.

the 360 has a normal netwoork socket which will work with any ethernet cable. normal or x over. It will take cat5,6.....

Just stick with cat5 as they are cheaper and you dont need what the other cats offer

Boogie, no cable will damage your 360, as far as I know with the 360, you just need any Cat5 RJ45 ethernet cable (Patch or Crossover).

I'm using the standard one but have used just about every ethernet cable in my house at one point

I use a cable that didn't come with my Xbox 360 as well.

Don't use a crossover cable, that very well may fry your xbox 360(Unless you are plugging it into a network card in your pc)

Nope coz the network card in the 360 is a magic one. You can use either since it detects what type of machine is on the other end of the cable and automatically adjusts.

These network cards are common these days to reduce the amount of confusion for network n00bs
Thanks for the reply mate . Just the "you should be ok" part that worries me . I don't want to damage my 360 .
I've used several different cables (probably like 8) for my 360, and everything has been fine. I have to use several extenders cause I'm very far away from my router, but they all work fine.
