Smartglass is living up to its name in all aspects except games; that remains to be seen.

But me with my WP, 360, and Surface on the way is loving this MS.

It's really cool. MS are doing a fantastic job positioning the 360 as a cablebox and smartglass just enhances the features.

The movie "sending" isn't as practical as it looks, except if you tend to hang out in your living room with all electronic devices switched on and just play with your phone.
This would be way more useful if xbox had a WOL feature.

The browser control looks great though. And I say looks because mine comes up with an error on the 360 whenever I try it.

God damn that looks fucking cool. We already got a phenomenal gaming device....but this really is the all in one media device. I have to believe that what we get today on the 360 (as far as the UI and features are concerned) will be what we get on the Xbox 3 as well. I can't imagine a huge departure from what we have now moving forward.

Loving it!

How did you manage that?

Meh, streaming from windows devices. Ok.

Smart Glass is for Android and iOS as well.

i truly do not get the fascination with having many devices doing one thing...

which is why i was asking (out of genuine curiosity) what it does for you.

You said you can do everything they show in the video. I merely asked how you accomplished that.

fair enough :D

this is where i stand:
i can browse the web on my tablet. i can browse the web on my phone.

if i want to watch a movie i will go pick out a dvd or bluray

if i want to use a different device to internet on, i will remember the url and enter it on the new device

if i want to listen to music, i will always use my ipod. if i have guests i will use my actual beastly radio thing (yes i still call it a radio despite its size)

so out of curiosity, what does this do that i can't already?

If you can't comprehend a video why would we explain it in words. Lost cause.

I on the other hand have no problem with comprehension, so please explain how you can do all those things.

EDIT:

Just read your explanation.

Hahahahahahah
Hahahaha

Really lol I'm crying

Haha
Thanks for the morning laugh. More people need laughter in their life, please take your talents across the internet. Lol.

 • Are you already able to play Xbox games on your Xbox, and have a second person control a secondary character or feature, or follow the game on the map while in game, on your phone or mobile device. Can you draw out your next play in Madden on a tablet live while in game? During Halo 4 for example, Master Chief was given additional information from scanning the side of a ship on to your device; that information updated in real-time on a real tablet nearby. A prime example:

 • Are you already able to browse the web on your Xbox 360, walk away and have the same site you were visiting and reading appear realtime on your tablet/pc/smartphone? Or be browsing a page on your phone and have it appear on the Xbox automatically to finish or continue your visit to that page?
 • Are you already able to be watching a movie on your smart device, and then have it automatically pick up where you left off on your Xbox?
 • Are you able to get realtime cast information during each scene that is playing in a movie on the Xbox onto your smart device?
 • Are you already able to use a smart device on your Xbox to do gestures, use your device as the keyboard and as a full remote control?
 • And finally, what program or app enables you to do all those things on the Xbox that we don't know about?

i'll start with what you said last. i never said i could do this on my xbox ;). i said that i could do those singular tasks on a singular devices. therein lies my curiosity.
so this is kinda like a pseudo wiiU tablet? im not inferring that as a negative.
so presumably, its usefulness is down to the type of phone/tablet you buy. or does the xbox stream this content?

 • Are you already able to browse the web on your Xbox 360, walk away and have the same site you were visiting and reading appear realtime on your tablet/pc/smartphone? Or be browsing a page on your phone and have it appear on the Xbox automatically to finish or continue your visit to that page?

 • Are you already able to use a smart device on your Xbox to do gestures, use your device as the keyboard and as a full remote control?
again, i never stated my xbox could do this. the inconvenience of doing it the 'other' way amounts to nothing more than a triviality.

 • Are you able to get realtime cast information during each scene that is playing in a movie on the Xbox onto your smart device?
i wont lie to you, (no sugar coating) i dont give a damn about this particular feature.

so, its basically another way to interact with a device you'd already otherwise be interacting with? a repetition of a task.
how does it stack up against the WiiU tablet?

I know you never specifically said XBOX. But you came into an XBOX thread and claimed you could already do all this stuff. Well, with the XBOX, we can't. But it's nice to know that we CAN now.

As for Wii U comparison, it is similar, yes. But not the same, at least not yet. With the Wii U, you can actually play the games on the tablet entirely. Smart Glass does not have that feature available. I will assume it will NEVER be available. With Smart Glass working on even older HTC devices, I am guessing they won't be able to play full games ever.

i was asking in here because where else? this is an xbox thread, i'd like to discuss it :D

however, that's fair enough. personally, its not for me. i did ask if it was capable of remotely activating your xbox though? this has actual use for me as i can have the xbox auto update, or download a game/demo whilst im away on holiday or out of country etc

im content with standalone devices doing a singular job.

From everything I have read, there is NOT any way to remotely turn on or off the Xbox 360, even with Smart Glass. That is something I would LOVE to have available (like the PS3 does).

I do like the idea of SmartGlass, but some of the features are useless.

The first one is a gimmick and I assume only selected games will use it. It'll be cool at first but after a week or so it'll never be used again.

Browsing on consoles is crap anyway. If I'm browsing the web on my phone/other portable device, it's only to quickly check something and I wouldn't want to send the webpage to my TV. I assume your Xbox has to be on the dashboard for this to work? So you can't for example, be playing a game on your 360, check a walkthrough on the web via your tablet/phone and then send it to your TV, can you? If you can then that's pretty nifty. TBH the only time I use my phone to browse the web is when I'm either playing a game or when watching TV. With the latter I won't even have my console on.

The watching movies bit is again, pointless. Who watches a movie on their tablet if the TV is in the same room and the Xbox is on, not being used? Same with music. I don't know anyone that uses their TV for music. Most people have a dock that they just plug their device into.

Real time cast information is again a gimmick which you'll use once or twice. All it does is distract you from the film.

I don't understand what you mean by gestures. The keyboard/remote control bit sounds good but isn't that what the controller is for?

So yeah, I like the idea of SmartGlass. I like it when multiple device I own interact with each other, but most of the time it's just a gimmick. It's like Remote Play on the PS3, it has potential and I like the idea but most of the time it's utterly pointless.

My thought here was that, you are not using the device in the same room as your TV. I picture myself being on one of my many flights throughout the year. I am watching Avengers on my iPad on the plane. I get home, and then at some point I go watch the rest of the movie on my Xbox, BAM right where I left off.

BTW, I use my TV for music more than anything in the house. My home theater is setup that way. I stream music from computers, use Last.fm, iHeart for streaming my tunes.

Well I never really thought of doing that with movies. TBH I hate watching movies on small screens so I'd never be watching it on a tablet in the first place, but I guess people like you do and it'll be a great feature for you.
browsing on 360 is quite good actually.
Quite good comparing to the ps3 and wii.

In a home with iPhones and iPads the 360 browser is useless.
