Days Gone release date leaked, but don't get your hopes up yet

The Days Gone release date has reportedly been leaked by a now-removed Sony YouTube video. Can we expect to see the upcoming open-world zombie game out this year?

Sony has reportedly outed the Days Gone release date in a now-removed trailer posted on the official PlayStation YouTube page.

The trailer compiled a number of games showcased at E3 2017 last week, with the Days Gone segment being accompanied by the following text: ‘Coming to PlayStation 4 December 29th, 2017.’ The fact the video was quickly taken down seems to indicate Sony wasn’t ready to make the information public, although it’s definitely an odd time to launch a major title nonetheless.

Still, it would help fill out Sony’s PS4 release schedule for the back half of the year, as the majority of the major first-party offerings showcased last week are due to ship in 2018. Right now though, take the info with a pinch of salt as we’ve yet to get an official word from Sony on the matter. It’s still unlikely a game of this calibre would launch in late December, but stranger things have happened.

Days Gone was announced at E3 2016 and is the latest project from Sony Bend Studio, the same company responsible for the acclaimed PlayStation Vita outing, Uncharted: Golden Abyss. The game takes place in a post-apocalyptic American mid-west, where humanity has been ravaged by a mysterious outbreak that turns people into zombie-like beings known as Freakers.

Gamers control a former bounty hunter and biker aficionado named Deacon St. John, who survives on the road as opposed to laying his head in one of the many camps dotted throughout the landscape. The game’s open-world environment affords numerous ways to complete your objectives, such as stealth or all-out action.

Days Gone also implements a dynamic weather system and day-night cycle, the latter of which affects the behaviour of the Freakers, with players also able to facilitate travel by hopping on motorbikes or craft new items to improve their efficiency in combat.

Stay tuned for more news on the Days Gone release date as we get it. For now, check out the latest gameplay footage straight from E3 2017.
