Andrés Muschietti Says The Shadow Of The Colossus Movie Has Not Been Abandoned

The Shadow of the Colossus movie may still yet see the light of day, as Andrés Muschietti has revealed the project has a script and that he still very much wants to move forward with the film.

Speaking on Radio TU, Muschietti made it clear that Shadow of the Colossus is not “an abandoned project by any means,” despite the this is the first time we’ve heard about the film in over a decade. The project was first reported around 15 years ago, and Muschietti had been confirmed in 2014 to have taken over the reins from Josh Trank.

I’m not a big gamer, but Shadow of the Colossus seems to me a masterpiece and I played it several times. The film has been in development for 10 years and now the possibility of making it is opening up.

Shadow of the Colossus is a cult game, but to make a good film, there is a studio that puts the numbers and says how much it is worth to give the director $200m, $150m, or $100m. There are different versions of the film, and obviously, I want them to give me $200m, but this is another factor to take into account.

PlayStation is no stranger to seeing some of its biggest brands adapted for the big screen, with Uncharted and Gran Turismo all having seen films released in the past few years. Looking ahead, we have Helldivers 2, Horizon Zero Dawn and Until Dawn all in the pipeline.

Shadow of the Colossus was originally released in 2006 for the PS2, and in 2018 Bluepoint Games released a stellar remake of the Team ICO masterwork for the PS4.
