Shuhei Yoshida, who recently left Sony Interactive Entertainment after more than 30 years with the company, has stated during a chat with Kinda Funny Gamescast that players should support remasters if they want to see more PS5 first-party games.
I joked about [PlayStation co-CEO Hermen Hulst] being criticised for making too many remasters. I think the people who complain about that are maybe thinking Hermen is doing that instead of doing something new. But I’m sure these remakes are made by a dedicated, different team, or some porting teams, especially the PC version. So I don’t think he’s sacrificing anything by doing [remasters].

The former PlayStation indie boss added that remakes/remasters prove “much cheaper to produce, creates additional revenue, and creates new users to the IP, especially when you port the game to PC.” Furthermore, such projects generate “enough revenue to keep investing in big titles. Single-player games now cost so much, so they need additional income by doing remasters and porting to PC to be able to do that.”
As such, Yoshida-san stated that those who aren’t fans of remasters but “like first-party’s output, the big single-player games, they should support Hermen doing these porting and remasters so that he can keep investing in these great new games.”
In the same interview, Yoshida revealed that Sony had amassed so many losses on the PS3 during its initial launch period, that it was only due to the success of its TV business that PlayStation was able to survive. He also named Ghost of Yotei as his most anticipated game of 2025.
