If Shenmue 3 raises $10 million it will ‘truly have the features of an open world,’ says Yu Suzuki

In a Reddit AMA earlier today, Shenmue creator Yu Suzuki answered questions about his latest Kickstarter creation and previous games in the series, revealed that Shenmue 3 would get a ‘true open world’ if the crowd-funded game hits $10 million.

One poster asked: “How much game elements/features will we be missing in the game if the campaign doesn’t reach the $5 million mark?." Yu Suzuki replied: “I will say this: if we reach the $5 mil mark, one of the things I really want to do with Shenmue 3 will become a reality. At $10 million, it will truly have the features of an open world."

The Q&A also raised a few other interesting replies from the Japanese developer, including slightly more details on the Rapport and Character Perspective systems which will be created should the Kickstarter reach $5 million.

“The Rapport System will govern changes in Shenhua’s actions depending on your conversations with or actions towards her,” he wrote. “The "Character Perspective System" will highlight different characters personalities as they go through the story.”

Shenmue 3 was announced during Sony’s E3 press conference earlier this week. The Kickstarter project soon went into the Guiness Book of Records after it took over $1 million worth of pledges in 102 minutes. Shenmue 3 has currently raised $3.3 million.
