PlayStation Network users warned not to make multiple password reset requests

Following the news that the PlayStation Network service is back online for most people, Sony has warned that users may have to wait a while before receiving a confirmation email after resetting their passwords.

When you boot up your PS3, users are prompted to download an update, which adds a number of new security measures. Once installed users are required to reset their passwords. This automatically triggers a reset confirmation message sent to the email that users have registered on PSN, but some people have reported that they have yet to receive confirmation from Sony.

Via the official PlayStation Blog, Nick Caplin, Head of Communications at SCEE, has issued a statement confirming that the issue is caused by an extremely heavy load of password resets from the PlayStation community.

“With the huge number of people coming back online at the same time and resetting their passwords, it is creating significant email traffic to ISPs. The consequence is that some of the ISPs are throttling the emails,” explains Caplin.

Caplin warns that users should not make multiple requests to reset passwords, but be patient as the conformation email will arrive. The PlayStation Network should be finally up and running for most users today, but if you still can’t get online then it’s just because Sony is rolling out the activation of the network worldwide so it may take a little time.
