Andrew House, President and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI), has said PlayStation 4 has performed beyond expectations in European territories.
Speaking with Japanese publication, Nikkei, House indicated that the electronics giant was even a little surprised by how well PS4 has sold, while noting its performance in Japan and North America has been in line with company expectations.
The U.S. was a particularly competitive market this year, as Microsoft was running a plethora of Xbox One bundles in the region, yet this didn’t seem to stunt sales of Sony’s machine.
As a result, House said that Sony expects the PS4 to surpass sales of the PS3 by the end of the current hardware cycle, whenever that might be.
Furthermore, 2015 is looking to be a bumper year for the PlayStation brand, with exclusive content such as Bloodborne, The Order: 1886, and of course Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End all looking to complement Sony’s on-going success.
PS4 has sold 18.5 million consoles worldwide to date since its launch in November 2013.
