SEGA Is Working On A Movie Adaptation Of The Shinobi Franchise With Universal Pictures

Deadline has reported that SEGA and Universal Pictures are teaming up to produce a movie based on the Shinobi franchise.

According to the report, the Shinobi film will be directed by Sam Hargrave, who worked on Extraction and its sequel for Netflix. Ken Kobayashi will handle the screenplay, and is probably best known for his work on comedy series Sunny for Apple TV+.

Meanwhile, Marc Platt and Adam Siegel will co-produce the movie, having previously worked together on Scott Pilgrim vs the World and Drive.

The Shinboi franchise looks set to be revived alongside a number of classic SEGA IPs such as Jet Set Radio, Golden Axe, and Crazy Taxi, with the company confirming during The Game Awards last year that it is working on a new chapter in the much-loved franchise.

Run through the world of Shinobi, full of monsters and ninja actions. Grab Oberozuki, the legendary sword and slay evil once more. Your clan and the world are counting on you.

No further details on the Shinobi movie are available yet, but given that it’s still in the early stages of production we probably won’t hear much for a while.
