Capcom Dino Crisis News PS5 Shinji Mikami

Shinji Mikami Isn’t Sure There’s ‘A Whole Lot Of Space’ For Dino Crisis With Monster Hunter Around

Those of you hoping for a Dino Crisis revival will probably be a little disappointed to hear that its creator, Shinji Mikami, doesn’t feel there’s a lot of space for the franchise right now given the popularity of Capcom’s own Monster Hunter series.

Speaking with Eurogamer, the Resident Evil mastermind was asked about the desire among fans to see Dino Crisis make a comeback, admitting he was “very surprised to hear that.” He then pointed to Monster Hunter as a series that has filled that particular void.

The awesomeness of dinosaurs and the stuff you can do with dinosaurs, that’s been kind of really nailed down by Monster Hunter in recent years. So even if I were to decide to make a remake or a new version of Dino Crisis, I don’t really feel like there’s a whole lot of space for that kind of game right now, just since Monster Hunter has become such a big game. But yeah, it is surprising.

It’s disappointing to hear that Mikami-san doesn’t feel there’s room for a new Dino Crisis or remake, but clearly people want the franchise back. As previously reported, it topped Capcom’s Super Elections poll as the series fans want to see a new entry from the most.

The original Dino Crisis was released for the PSOne in 1999 and utilised 3D backgrounds, but played largely similar to the Resident Evil games of that era. Its sequel, 2000’s Dino Crisis 2, adopted pre-rendered backgrounds like the classic Resi games, while the Xbox-exclusive Dino Crisis 3 took the franchise into space.
