The PlayStation 3 version of Alone in the Dark 5 will no longer be released alongside its PC and Xbox 360 counterparts early next year, publisher Atari has today confirmed.
The game was originally slated to appear simultaneously on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC some time before the end of the company’s fiscal year concluding March 2008. However, while no specific details were given, the firm has confirmed to Eurogamer that the PS3 version will now arrive at a later date.
As with previous instalments, Alone in the Dark 5 casts players in the shoes of paranormal investigator, Edward Carnby. Set in the year 2006, Carnby is tasked with pursuing a series of strange occurrences in New York City’s Central Park while battling hordes of demonic creatures set in fully interactive environments. Featuring all-new physics and visual effects, Alone in the Dark 5 is set to be the most realistic entry in the series to date.
Update (Sept 6th): Eurogamer has learned today that the game will in fact not be delayed, despite being informed that the PC and Xbox 360 versions were due to be released first.
A firm release date has yet to be announced, however, so stay tuned for more information.
