[UPDATE] Twisted Metal pre-order incentive detailed, extended trailer emerges

Twisted Metal Producer Chad Cox confirmed via the PlayStation Blog that anyone pre-ordering the vehicle-combat game from “participating retailers” will be granted early access to the muscle-bound character Axel and his two-wheeled contraption.

Due for release on October 4, 2011, Twisted Metal is the eighth instalment of the series. The game will be heavily slanted toward multiplayer combat and will include the likes of Nuke Mode where two factions will race to destroy a statue that dangles in the air by a helicopter. Twisted Metal will cater for up to four-player split-screen, and 16-players online.

Okay, so it’s not the greatest preorder incentive in the world because you can unlock Axel later on in the game, but it’s better than nothing, right?

UPDATE: A previous version of this article indicated that Twisted Metal will be available for download via the PlayStation Network. That is incorrect; presently, it is announced only as a Blu-ray disc release.
