Sony Computer Entertainment announced today that they had sold over 3.9 million units of PlayStation hardware in North America since Black Friday. So that's from November 23rd till December 31, 2007. Out of 3.9 million the PlayStation 2 sold over 1.3 million units, the PlayStation Portable over 1.4 million units, and the PlayStation 3 over 1.2 million units. Keep in mind that these numbers are North America only.

"The PlayStation brand ended the year in a very strong position and clearly indicates more positive momentum going into 2008. We are particularly pleased to have sold through 1.2 million units of PS3 during the holiday selling season," said Jack Tretton, president and CEO, SCEA. "The strong PS3 sales also further establish Blu-ray's dominant position as the high-definition medium of choice for games and movies. Consumers are clearly responding to the expanding multimedia capabilities and a great line-up of over 200 games."

This is it for PlayStation for now, probably more news to come from CES as the Sony press conference approaches. Stay tuned!

Good boost for both PS3 and PSP.

And worldwide that puts it close to 9 million sold.

Hopefully they aren't as far behind the 360 and Wii as usual, expect huge numbers there too.

Yeah with all these HD-DVD downfalls the PS3 will surely outsell it this upcoming year. BUT it will not outsell the Wii. Maybe in 2009. Depends on how many good games come out for the Wii. After Smash Bros Brawl what do they really have?

very good sales, it's great to hear the ps2 selling as good as it is even after 7 years.

Off topic: For those who complain about 40gb having no BC. Well if you really want to play ps2 games buy a 40gb ps3 and then buy a ps2 it equals qhat an 80gb is worth. 40gb PS3=$399 + PS2+$100 = 499.00 Which also equals an 80gb.

Reality check....The consumers responded to the price drops and now they are waiting for the next price drop.

Reality is PS3 did poorly once again over Christmas. The revenue line figures got released on Friday the 6th ... Xbox 360 pulled in a massive US$3.5 Billion compared to PS3 which did just $1 Billion. Worst still Live has crossed the 10 million mark over Christmas. We got pounded...

On the upside Microsoft Live whilst succesful got smashed and has had to handle 380 million downloads. Their server infrastructure is straining under the load and this has caused outages....

With delays on MGS 4, Haze, Little Big Planet - Sony needs to really pull the finger out and get Home on track and get some proper games out before the end of Feb. Otherwise slash N burn those prices... again...

Nintendo's US revenues for December was above $2 Billion and inspite of the shortages it appears that they finished 2007 with an installed base of 19.5 Million consoles VS Xbox 360 with only 17.7 Million. If thats the case Wii will have passed the 20 million mark before you read this message.

I think the most important figure to watch is the sales of COD4, Assasins Creed over christmas and again launch figures for DMC 4, and GTA 4 on Xbox 360 VS PS3. If the gap is too wide in favor of Xbox 360, the publishers will certainly slow development of PS3 further and focus on PC + Xbox 360 and plus support dedicated DS / Wii dev teams. They wont have a choice.

We cant rely on Square Enix again or Konami to save PS3 - Sony needs to pull a rabit out of the hat and deliver that must have content within the next month or two otherwise momentum will probably stall.

The ps3 is the greatest console ever i was an xbox man until i discovered the ps3 i have even sold my xbox 360 it's so obsolete, i'm not being a fanboy but it's true, you can download divx movies straight to your harddrive but the xbox 360 can't, you can watch blu-ray movies on your ps3 xbox 360 can't you need to stream divx via a pc even photos and music it needs a pc to stream everything, and this year the ps3 games are going to be a hundred times better than the xbox 360’s, my point is this is why the ps3 has sold over a million consoles in just over a month long may it continue

If for some freakish reason you haven't picked up a PS3 by now, 2008 will knock your legs out from under you.
