Activision announces Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

In a move that isn't surprising nor unexpected, Activision Blizzard has officially announced Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 today in Manhattan, NY. Modern Warfare 2 is the sequel to Infinity Ward's award winning original, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.
According to MTV Multiplayer, Activision announced the title at a Massive Inc. upfront earlier today. Upfront events are generally thrown in order for publishers to display their titles to advertisers.
Considering the game is quite a long way off, there hasn't been any real info or details released about the game thus far. However, Activision did confirm that we can expect the game to release in the Fall of 2009.

While I'm sure it will no doubt be good. I don't see it being better than KZ2 which means I probably won't buy it.

Shouldn't it be called "Call Of Duty 6: Modern Warfare", or something like that... This name would only make sense if COD4 was named "Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare", but since it's actually called "Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare", you can't call this game "Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2"

@6 Wow, I'm an idiot because I have an opinion? I say you're the idiot 1. I know KZ2 has had a much, much longer development window than COD:MW2. Usually the longer span of time you have to work on something the better it will turn out. 2. KZ2 has a class system, which I'm psyched about, so unless COD copies it... Once again, opinion. You idiot.

LOL Call of Duty (4): Modern Warfare 2? funny name. How much more modern do you get in the past year? Sure there's more unmanned and robotic military technology and electromagnetic rail guns and fully automatic shotguns and such but I think we need to see more car bombs and child soldiers, they're pretty popular in modern warfare.

imagine this. multiplayer online with citiezens aswell, and the enemies can disguise themselves as suicide bombers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and yes .. i am really excited for next year games.. i just hope they put in the co op thingy like waw.. i didn't get waw..was thinking about it ..now i'll just borrow it and wait for MW2.. it would also be cool if they made the multiplayer hold more players ..like 10 or 12 a side the most.. -

Yay! Yet another year of childish idiots shouting abuse down their mic's at one another! im not so hyped about multiplayer in this game, and after CoD4, wasnt hyped about CoD5WaW. For ppl who like to network with friendly folks...fail. For idiotic 21 year olds who argue with little children....im sure it wil be good......for them. ill probably rent it for single player like CoD5.

I can't believe people are debating of not buying it because of the name...awesome.
Anyway, I'm definitely picking this one up, COD4 was pretty sweet and there's no way I could go back to the past with COD5, so COD:MW2 is the way for me.
Also, didn't they say that IW is working on a "Fantasy Shooter?" Would COD:MW2 be more than just "modern" and tap it's way into aliens? -

I love me some COD. However, seeing that COD4 only got one map pack released and then this announcment of MW2 release only 1 year after WaW....it seems activision is turning this franchise into the Guitar Hero of FPS.
I have high faith in IW but after WaW, I will wait until I can in a beta or rent it first. WaW didn't play bad or anything...but paying 60 bucks for what very well could of been a mod for COD4 wasn't going to happen.

@38 Have you seen the newest videos for KZ2. Amazing! There is no way COD will even compete especially considering it's a multi-platform title. They have to consider the 360 while Guerilla doesn't. Guerilla can focus 100% on the PS3's strong and weak points while IW has to worry about weak and strong points of both consoles. What is the lead platform anyway? If it's a port from the 360, then you've lost your mind if you think it will be better than KZ2.

naw im definitely picking this up,call of duty 4 definitely stunned me by its performance and if this is any better,than its on my "gots to buy" list,sure the name is...not suitable but its the game that matters,and i don't see why somebody is comparing this game to killzone 2??wtf?

name it COD6:Current Warfare lol hopefully more customizations to the weapons like AK-47 laser sight or 3 kill was recon plane 5 kill was air stike and 7 kill was helicopter how about 10 kill ion cannon or sniper support waw is not a bad game but this is going to be excellent i bet my ps3 on it lol.
