Activision blocks Rock Band compatability patch

Posted on December 13th, 2007 at 04:56 EDT

A rumor was swirling around the interweb last week that Activision was delaying a patch for the PS3 version of the recently released Rock Band. The patch would have allowed for compatibility with Guitar Hero III's Les Paul guitars, a feature desperately wanted by PS3 gamers.

A week has passed, and it appears the rumor was indeed true - Activision is preventing Harmonix from releasing the patch, which has been ready since December 4. Harmonix recently released a statement regarding the matter.

"As is the case with the Microsoft Xbox 360, we believe that Sony PLAYSTATION 3 users should be able to use the peripheral of their choice with Rock Band," said Harmonix.

"We sincerely hope that Activision will reverse its decision and allow release of the compatibility patch and further, that Activision will allow Guitar Hero III to support Rock Band guitar controllers as well. We welcome all third party developers who wish to support our controllers and will provide any required support in order for them to do so.

"We believe that when consumers have choice, everyone wins. Harmonix and MTV Games hope that Activision and others in the industry will also adopt this philosophy."

We as gamers hope that Activision does indeed back down and allow the patch out to the public. More on this topic soon.

Rock Band > Guitar Hero 3. I don't even need to worry about it because I'm not buying Guitar Hero.

Didn't Red Octane said a couple of days ago that they did not want Harmonix guitars to work on their game as they were to buggy? I guess Harmonix got mad at this comment and is now releasing the truth, greedy Red Octan does not want the compatibility to work either way...

Its so stupid, its not like activision will loose money if GH3 controller works with RB, if anything Harmonix wouldn't make as much money on additional controllers
