Activision expects PS3 to last at least eight years

Activision CEO Robert Kotick has said that his company expects Sony’s PlayStation 3 console to remain on the market for at least another eight years.
Speaking during the Activision Blizzard Analyst Day, Kotick stated, "I think there's a long life ahead of us, we're in year eight of PlayStation 2 and when you look at PlayStation 3 technically we're likely to see at least eight years' success."
The CEO also described how the company’s success is helping it to influence the design of future home consoles, noting, “Now that we have the weight of being the largest payer of royalties to the first-parties of any third-party company, I definitely see us as starting to influence hardware design, and they're thinking about the evolution of the next generation of hardware.”
"The good news is that when it does come it's going to have a powerful impact on our ability to capture a lot of that part of the marketplace today that feature films, television or music [inhabit]"

This is something I do not want happening. I prefer to see the console manufacturers design their own console independently of the game makers. It is the game makers' job to learn the hardware and make the most efficient use of it. This spurs creativity, competition and most of all, makes sure that only the best games make it on the platform to be sold to us gamers. The only people that should have any say in the software side of things are the devisions that deal with making the OS and its features and even then, it should be limited. What I really think is that the software industry needs to play catch-up with the hardware industry.

DUDE!!, thats exactly what sony said. sony said the ps3 would last 10 years....it's BEEN TWO!! that means theres eight left!! (are they mocking my intellegece, do they think i can't subtract >.<)

The title says 'at least' implying that it could last more than 10.. your ability to spell mocks your intelligence..

This isn't a prediction so much as a foregone conclusion. I'll laugh when M$ finally realizes they have a Oh lets just say it: They got a pig and put some lipstick on it, and release the Crapbox720, which will just be a crapbox with bluray. Can't wait till the RROD attacks that one as well.

sony have said they expect the console(PS3) to last around 10 years, its been 2. all he's doing is stating something that sony already said(that was my point). and simple typing errors hardly reflect someones intelligence.
on a side note,my PS3 will never be left to gather dust. it will last the remaining 8 or so years and beyond(im not saying i'll be playing it when the ps4 comes out, but it wont be left in a corner of my closet either,hehe)
