Analyst: GTA IV to ship 5.8 million in first week

Janco Partners analyst Mike Hickey has said that Rockstar’s forthcoming Grand Theft Auto IV may ship as many as 5.8 million units globally in its first week of release.
Hickey’s comments come following a note to Gamestop investors this week, where he discussed a number of titles expected to yield strong sales at retail for the year.
Highlighting GTA IV, which is scheduled to launch worldwide on April 29, Hickey stated, "We expect [GameStop] will benefit from the release of GTA IV in their fiscal Q2 08 period, which could ship 5.8 million units in the first week or $360 million in retail sales and potentially $110 million for the Company.”
His comments echo that of Wedbush Morgan analyst, Michael Pachter, who said last month that he expects the crime romp to ship around 6 million units worldwide in one week.
Touching on this statement, Pachter told Next-Gen.biz yesterday, "That number is unlikely to sell through right away, probably closer to 4 million units.”

If GameStop is going to get ~$110 million from 6 million, they're making close to $20 on each game. Anyone else think that's a rip-off? They pay 1/4 of full price for trade in and sell it for 150% profit. Good thing I refused to buy anything there a long time ago. Bastards.

I think that GTA4 could easily sell 5.8 million units worldwide in the first week.
Even though there is more people with Xbox 360's, I think that GTA4 will sell more on the Playstation 3 in the long run. More people played the GTA series on the PS2, and I'm thinking that the majority of those people are going to get PS3's. I don't know how people with Xbox 360's play video games that aren't first person shooters with that controller anyways. The PS3 would be the best console to play GTA4 on.

i got mine fully paid off with my dual shock 3 coming on april 11th. lmfao. did anyone see X-play last night they set the start of summer april 28th. hmmm i wonder what's being released that day on the 360 and ps3

@infernoreaper....i think R* is going to see that much profit, not Gamestop. I am pretty sure Gamestop makes its money off of other things, and not new games.
