Analyst expects another PS3 price cut this summer

Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst Michael Pachter has been peeking in to his crystal ball this week, forecasting another price cut for both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 later this year.

Writing in a note, Pachter said the firm anticipates “another price cut for both systems some time this year (around summer),” adding, “because its manufacturing costs are lower, Microsoft has the ability to lower price as early as March or April.”

He also expects Microsoft to introduce “a more feature-packed Xbox 360 in early 2010 (likely with a 250GB hard drive) at the same $299 price point,” though noted this would only likely materialise “if it begins to lose significant market share to Sony.”

Sony lowered the price of PS3 in August last year, as well as introducing the revamped Slim model for USD $299.
