Ubisoft has said that it expects sales of Assassin’s Creed 2 to be 15 percent greater than that of the first game, a belief primarily attributed to the addition of a PSP entry in the popular stealth franchise later this year.
Speaking during a conference call yesterday, Ubisoft executive director, Alan Corre, stated, "Following the strong showing of Assassin’s Creed at E3 and the current buzz, we now think the game should be selling around 15 per cent more units than the first title.”
"Our previous guidance suggested it was going to sell less units than the first title. Most of this performance actually comes from the addition of one platform, the PSP, of which Assassin’s Creed was not released in the past. Half of this performance is done with guaranteed bundles.”
Furthermore, Ubisoft boss Yves Guillemot has confirmed that pre-orders for the stealthy sequel have already surpassed those of the first title: “Assassin’s Creed 2 pre-orders are much higher than the previous title and the game is really coming along very well," said Guillemot.
The original Assassin’s Creed was released in November 2007 and has since gone to shift a whopping eight million copies globally. The sequel will arrive on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC in November 2009. The PSP entry, Bloodlines, is due on November 10.
