Ubisoft has given some insight into just how popular the original Assassin’s Creed title fared with consumers following its launch in 2007.

Speaking with Joystiq at E3 last week, Patrice Désilets, producer of stealthy sequel Assassin’s Creed 2, said of the original game: “We sold some eight million copies of it, you know. Some people really enjoyed and loved the game.” You might say that. We certainly lapped it up.

Assassin’s Creed 2 is scheduled for release on PlayStation 3, PC and Xbox 360 on November 17, 2009. This time around players control a young noble chap named Ezio Auditore di Firenze, with locations ranging from Venice, Florence, the Tuscan countryside and Rome.

Surely it doesn't deserve it, but I liked it as much as it could be liked (I only got it on Greatest Hits 2 weeks ago), and look forward to the new one.

..mm, well, maybe Assassin's Creed 2 would be interesting if it had less killing, or something..

..seriously, though. Less psychotic slaughtering, and more actual assassination. And I swear to all that is holy - if AC2 will ruin one of my silent runs with more of the assassin- detecting crazy guys, because the game- designers still can't come up with more interesting ways to make sneaking less easy - I... oohh.. I won't buy the game.

Altho not playing the game, ive heard alot of bad hype about it

and i asked someone i met on killzone and his reply was

"yeh it has a lot of things wrong with it, its a good game but there are somethngs that are just anoying, they could easily be fixed aswell like being able to go back and redo missions etc"

so im guessing the second will be pretty good cus they will easily fix the problems

    and 8millon nice

surprising considering how boring it was, rented it for 5 days, played it one day for an hour, stoped playing it

Could have been double that if there was more variety.

If main character is new then I won't need to play AC1 to keep-up with the story, phew!?

so there was 8 million bored to death people doing the samething over & over with no variation. I really hope the sequel has more varied gameplay in the various cities. The only thing I found really fun in the 1st AC was finding and scaling your way up to the way points. But the missions were the samething over and over and over again.

Whoa... I knew it had high sales, but not that high!

@3 Uncharted was PS3 exclusive, AC is including PC and 360 sales also...

AC2 will sell even more if it manages to improve combat, introduces more variety to missions and captures the feel of the cities similar to AC1.

@3 - What are you ON? Nothing compares to Uncharted. And definitely not Assassin's Creed, of all games, which was average at best.
