BioShock developer details PS3 improvements

In our upcoming BioShock interview, 2K Marin programmer Jake Etgeton reveals that the PS3 version of BioShock will feature new interactive load screens and graphical enhancements due to the use of Blu-ray and the ability to install data on the PS3 hard drive.

"There are improvements, such as interactive load screens which takes advantage of the increased space on the Blu-ray disc," said Etgeton. "The downloadable Challenge Rooms also offer a slew of new graphical and gameplay content, albeit outside of the fictional universe."

When asked about the PS3 install and how it will affect the game, Etgeton explained, "BioShock PS3 uses a standard one-time 5 GB install. It only takes 10 minutes, and there’s even a fancy movie accompanied by Bing Crosby’s 'You're Getting to Be a Habit with Me' to help pass the time if you’re not off making a tasty, preparatory sandwich."

"Installing to the PS3 hard drive allows us to 'stream' textures and audio faster than the Blu-ray drive can deliver," he justified.

For those of you who want to pick up the PS3 version of BioShock, look for it in stores on October 21. Stay tuned for our full interview with Etgeton later this week.

Blu-ray doesn't really offer an increased speed of data delivery, only more storage.

Don't give your hopes up buddy, I too am a big socom fan, but this latest title doesn't live up to the franchise. Rent it first, you'll probably find your willing to wait for the next installment.

lol i read somewhere that it didnt quite look as good as the 360 version, if thats the case I dont know how they can claim graphical improvements. But I own the game on 360 and the ps3 demo looked just as gd (through component, i usually play with VGA for 360 so get a slightly cleaner res on my screen but thats just me)

if hes saying that the ps3 doesnt send out the info fast enough, i really think sony shouldve put in a 4x blu-ray drive like phil originally wanted, maybe wouldve made the installs smaller but o well. for what i played of it, the demo seemed fun but i didnt get to finish it so well see what happens

I cancelled my preorder after the demo. I want to see if they fixed a few things before I plunk down $60 for a year old game. The quality was alright, just not great. Definitely not up to par with what's being offered by other titles being released here shortly. Fallout3 FTW!

basically theres no difference... all these games that require installs, eg dmc4. there is basically no difference as opposed to a little less loading time.. i mean, this way, one would use up more or less all of the ps3 hdd space. but on x360 you dont need do any of this crap, no installs, no nothing lolz..

Stop lying god damn. Have someone played the demo? It looks worse then the XBox version. The frame rate is low, the image is blured and there are even PS1 textures on some models. Did I dream this?

    @ 19

Really?  Have you actually played many 360 games?  Like Oblivion?  Compare the loading times for 360 and PS3, its no comparision.

Graphical enhancements... Please.. where? because I don't see them.. unless they mean getting it to look toned down from the 360 version. Then yes I see the so called graphical enhancements..:) I'll pass
