According to the Nielson VideoScan numbers, Blu-ray still reigns supreme in HD movie sales boasting a 71% to 29% split in the week ending November 11th. The HD-DVD heavy hitter, Transformers sits at the 3rd place position and is the only HD-DVD movie to sell in the top 10 of HD movie sales.

1. Spider-Man 3 BD 100.00
2. Spider-Man: The High Definition Trilogy BD 71.95
3. Transformers HD 31.42
4. Meet the Robinsons BD 8.82
5. 300 BD 6.56
6. Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer BD 5.03
7. License to Wed BD 4.24
8. The Shining BD 4.11
9. Mr. Brooks BD 4.03
10. 2001: A Space Odyssey BD 3.88
Though Blu-ray is clearly the dominant force here, it usually takes a few years for the industry to come to it’s senses and decide an official victor; however, in this case it could possibly be dragged on just a bit more. HD-DVD continues to hold a few studios to support the format exclusively, but until then, it really looks like Blu-ray will become the new standard.

lol if only we had TF then it'd be HD-what?
Tis a shame we don't get Transformers. I would have defo added that to the collection, Spider-Man will do for now though.
But didn't a boatload of HD-DVD players just sell? And the PS3 owners don't even know what blu ray is.... how is this possible.
Nice. That picture is old.
I don't think we'll know the true pictuire of the Hi-Def video wars for another year at least yet. While its true to state that there have been more HD-DVD standalone players sold (including the 360 add on) its also fair to point out that they have been on sale for longer. Sony's own research suggested 1 in 4 PS3 owners were aware of Blu-Ray films and had purchased one so at least theres roughly 1 million sales of disks. Also at my local hi-end audio shop they've told me that the people buying Blu-Ray players have serious amounts of money to throw at the best possible home cinema set ups and want the best products, and have therefore got lots of cash to spend on films. Meanwhile at the other end of the scale the mass market just aren't interested, I'd personally like to see the attach rate for films to players ratio. Taking out PS3 sales of course because the HD-DVD camp don't like to include them in their figures ;)
It is interesting that the BD of Casino Royale did not make the top ten list.
I wonder how the HD camp is going to spin this one??? " well well we uh...ummm... We still have a larger attach rate cause most people do not know the PS3 can play BluRay yeah thats it".. Yeah I am pretty sure that is how they will do it..
Everything on that list is BD except Transformers.
Paramount will bail out of HD-DVD when their $150MM, 18 month period is up. They are not that stupid... Well, after watching the last 2 Star Trek films maybe they ARE stupid :). Universal will also yield, probably sooner. GE, the parent company, is focused on profits and backing a dead format doesn't help.
What is the big deal? You support your format because it's available in your console? Why would anyone want competing formats? It's confusing the customer and slowing down sales. Even Sony's CEO admits he wishes he could go back in time and unite the two formats... http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2007/11/12/sony-ceo-wishes-for-time-travel-nexgen-dvd-collaboration/
wot the numbers mean?

I know tht blue will be the victor. I Know it will and this just proves tht there are really dumb people out there supporting hd-dvd.I mean what r they thinkin???

NEXUS, you are an idiot... You seem to know the victor?! Maybe you could clue me in on stocks purchases! HD-DVD is not Microsofts format. They are backing it, but will support Blu-ray if HD fails. Why would HD users be "dumb"? Your lack of spelling certainly gives you credibility. If you'll look at the Amazon link that I posted earlier you'll see exactly how "dumb" you come accross!
Some how no matter how dominant Blu-ray is, the HD-DVD camp is going at it. Not sure how long its going to drag until Blu-ray movies cost as much as the current DVD's now. :E
psn id: gingo.... i really wish wish transformers was on blu ray but apart from that i dont really care about hd dvd because all the rest of the films i want are coming out on blu ray or both
paramount was bribed, and they're kickin themselves right now.
This Hi-Def market share is a farce! Lets look at the whole movie market, for the full picture and the figures go something like... DVD 90%, Video tape 3%, Blu Ray 4%, HD-DVD 2%... so... the hi-def formats are squabbling over 6% total market share? By 2009 both maybe overtaken by HiDef streaming movies, as Gates predicted many years ago, and maybe thats why MS may never bother with a HD player in the 360. Games and movies maybe downloaded/streamed from servers, and such drives may soon be obselete anyway, they may have a place as personal storage mediums, but only via PCs.
spiderman is kicking a.. wow!!!
You guys forget,we could just buy the DVD version of Transformers, and upscale it.
@Drazden- you too are correct, in that if there was just a single format then maybe adoption rates would be higher, but at the end of the day, most people haven't bought into HiDef, and it will remain that way for some time. There was a latter comment about upscaling, and although the quality won't be as good as native HiDef, the majority will be happy with that solution, so even for those that want to clutter up their homes with physical media, I don't see HiDef taking any significant market share away from DVD. 2009 maybe an over-exaggeration, but networks are gearing up for it, and by the time HIDef does start making any in-roads into the DVD market share, I suspect streaming will make bluRay and HD-DVD obselete. Time will tell. Though as far as I recall the DVD adoption rate was pretty staggering wasn't it? After just 2 years it pretty much dominated over VHS (I think), but the advantages were obvios, this time round (with upscaling) it's a little more subtle.
Good news for Sony;
