Robert Bowling, director of communications and community manager at Infinity Ward, has reiterated that Modern Warfare 2 will act as a direct sequel, noting that such a thing ‘has never happened before’ in the Call of Duty franchise.
“This is a direct sequel to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. That is what we are trying to get across to our audience. It’s not just another one in the Call of Duty franchise," said Bowling, during an interview with MTV’s Multiplayer Blog.
The community boss observed that the release of a direct sequel is a first for the long running FPS franchise, with past iterations having been completely disparate from that of their predecessors in terms of storyline and campaign.
“This has never happened in Call of Duty before,” he explained. “They’re typically their own campaigns and totally unrelated to the previous one. This one, is indeed a direct sequel and we just want to make that clear."
Modern Warfare 2 is due out on PlayStation 3, PC and Xbox 360 on November 10, 2009.
