Church officials at Manchester Cathedral have gone on record to say that they have “forgiven” Sony for failing to ask permission over the depiction of the building in Insomniac’s PlayStation 3 title, Resistance: Fall of Man.
"I think some important lessons have been learnt. So we do forgive Sony for what they have done, even though they still believe they have done nothing wrong”, stated The Dean of Manchester Cathedral, Reverend Rogers Govender.
"In an industry that is breaking new frontiers, it is important that long held traditions of film and television are maintained. These traditions include having courtesy, respecting the dignity of your subject, and admitting when mistakes have been made.”
"In so many ways Sony have failed to live up to these standards by disrespecting people of faith and the victims of gun crime here in Manchester”, he added.
Despite this, Rogers noted that the Cathedral has received a spike in the number of visitors since the discrepancy earlier this year, particularly in those of a young age as well as tourists.

Sony hasn't done anything wrong. Sony didn't kill anyone and they didn't blow up the Manchester Cathedral. Maybe the church should actually focus on making their community better instead of spending resources on this circus. BTW, the church "forgiving" Sony is clearly just a way for them to make themselves look good and Sony look bad in the process. It is in no way genuine.

Tradition of film and TV? Of course the have to ask permission to physically be there. What they are asking is more akin to harrasing an artist because he painted a scene of england that has the church in it. It is there in real life, and that is what they were trying to convey.

I would like to say its just a building, God did not send his only begotten son to save a building. To many people today think man made structures are of "Holy" value. When they are not. They almost hold them as idols which is clearly stated against Gods word. So i think its stupid. Resistance is the best game i have and i love playing it.

@galaxyman14: Church genuine? That's a laugh. This has been nothing but a genuine showing of church greed from the beginning. Sony did nothing wrong. Games use representations of earth's locales all the time. They are nothing more than representations and you don't need permission to use a representation of a public area. I seem to remember that they were willing to forgive Sony in the past in lieu of a "generous" donation to the church. Guess they had to try to fund the molestation lawsuits. They need to put this crap behind them and focus on their community at hand.

"the Cathedral has received a spike in the number of visitors" Looks like they should be thanking Sony, rather than "forgiving" them.

I'm picturing myself what Sony would reply to the Church's "forgivness".
FU, YOU HIPOCRITS!!!
these people where to dumb to actually make some researchs on the game before Yackin.... Sony did not made the game, Insomniac did!!!
and they have nothin to apologise for either.
I agree with ya "Staticneuron", it's like suing an artist for painting a monumental statue while adding some cool things on it! :D:D:D

what a bunch of d1cks! "we are sorry about getting angry over YOUR mistake" well its surprising in its self that a church would actually apologize for anything being the people who think they are always right

Ultimately what all this means is they arnt going to get jack out of sony, or even Insomniac. They've given up and while they can say they forgive them they've completely missed that the point of forgivness is not to continue to talk about how they havent lived up to what you wanted them to do. To forgive is devine, to continue to be petty b!tches just shows how hypocritical they are.
