Codemasters backs Sony's 10 year PS3 plan

So if you're a PlayStation 3 owner it probably means that you are a high roller because you had the money to purchase the console. If not the former, then chances are you're probably really broke, because of the high price tag and your lack of funds to purchase one. Either way, you probably want some reassurance that your decision will be one made with much guarantee instead of regret.

Before the launch Sony has been bragging that the PlayStation 3 is not for the short run, but for the long run ahead. Ten years to be exact, which means that while the PS4 is new to the scene, the PS3 will still be strong just like the PS2 currently is.

Rod Cousens, CEO of Codemasters explains, “I really do think it’s going to be a ten-year cycle and I do think that’s something that’s been overlooked when people are fairly dismissive of certain hardware platforms,”

Cousens also believes that it will be the PS3, not the Wii or Xbox 360 that will be the major forerunner this generation, “I certainly think it’s premature to dismiss Sony because I believe that they’re only now showing signs of ramping up and that shouldn’t come as any surprise to people given the trail of to be released dates of Wii and 360 and given the price points that they were coming in at, and given the lack of software supporting the format. I believe all those ingredients are starting to merge and I would expect Sony to have real momentum over the coming years."

Closing it out, he details how the PS3 will be a major role player in Japan and interesting enough, Eastern Europe:

“I also believe you have to look at it on a global basis and not be territorial. If you look at it on a global basis then you would expect Sony to certainly pick up in the Japanese market.

“You only have to look at their performance in Russia over the last twelve months where there’s very little distribution for competing consoles, and in some of the Eastern Bloc countries to know that they will almost certainly prevail in those marketplaces.”

another damn good reason to invest in a ps3, especially since the 360 is soon to be replaced and disontinued.

I said it many times before.... and I'll say it again. The Wii is a gimmick. While fun for awile, eventually people will get tired of the same rehashed games. We are moving to a HD world and I have nothing but respect for Nintendo and what they did for the gaming world. Having said that by the end of 09, Sony will be nipping at Nintendo's hills on sales and M$ will gearing up to introduce a new stystem to try and top sony. Their crashbox3fixme will fall again and the red ring of death lights will finally fade out.

I think your begining statement about the price is un-warrented. Sure I paid $700 for my PS3, but with the 40gb out now it's the same price of the 360 and you don't see jumps on that machine for it's price.

Nice! I always said the PS3 would last. Actually I woldn't B suprised if the don't make a PS4 for like 2 or 3 generations!

Thats good news! I got a PS3 because of its great hardware. The system will last forever! The 360 only last what, 3 years or so. This will last 10.

I agree. When PS3 starts to sell more than the 360 MS will start Production on their new console therefore giving up on the 360 and letting it die off just like the OG Xbox. That's exactly why MS will never have complete Domination in the Gaming Console industry. They'll have their short lived successes, but MS will never produce a machine that can move 100 million + units like Sony.

when they start getting bigger titles out like Metal gear solid 4,GTAIV,GT5. they will be selling consoles like nobodies buisness. this christmas will big a good holiday for ps3. since alot of people probably are fans of the ps2 games and ps1 games of these franchises probably want all these games. i especially want  all of them. even though there is no demo for metal gear solid 4 or Grand theft auto iv. but, there is one for Gran turismo 5. but,  i would rather have an Metal gear solid 4 demo. but, konami has already said "there to busy working on the game to have a demo"

The Wii's dominance is essentially being carried by Nintendo and not so much its third party developers but its aims are the casual gamers which is massive; 360 relies mainly on thrid parties and good MS arcade classics and next gen platofrms but relies heavily on the hardcore; Sony' has good thrid parties backing it up since day 1 and has solid titles of its own, even more so it caters to both hardcore and a a portion to casual gamers. What they need to do is make the hardcore stay strong ang gain back some of the casual PS2 owners awaiting for a PS3.
