This past weekend Codemasters made available at Play.com Live a playable version of their upcoming title, Race Driver: GRID. Some of you may be familiar with Codemasters other racing titles such as Colin McRae Rally and ToCA Race Driver. Both games just happened to be top of their class. They're also known for the racer DiRT, which includes what is highly regarded as the best damage modeling of any racer game yet.

GRID is expected to feature GTR racecars, American muscle cars, and Japanese drift machines. On top of this, Codemasters plans on taking this game an entirely different direction than other games of the simulation genre.
“This is not a game about collecting cars or spending all of your time in the front-end tuning suspension settings or designing liveries. We want to make racing exciting again,” exclaims Ralph Fulton, Chief Game Designer.
Tracks will be based in America, Europe, and Japan as well. One of the coolest aspects released about this title revolves around the Japanese drifting. Apparently there will be traffic on the streets during these races, making it for a much more realistic experience of street drifting, something only usually seen in an arcade racer.

Codemasters has this slated as a mid-2008 release with nothing concrete in mind. We'll keep you up to date, as this appears to be a racer worth looking at.

This looks more and more interesting as time goes by
i have to admit this game has been on my radar for quite some time..... prologue will be awesome for a half game but ditto gorillanuts it does look interesting
Well, this game wasn't on my radar at all, but the screenshots look pretty nice. I'm pretty picky when it comes to racing games and I'll have to read a review about this game before I buy it. I'm getting Gran Turismo 5 Prologue with or without reading a review first because I already know what to expect. When it comes to 3rd party games I'm always skeptical of them unless they are PS3 exclusives like Haze and Metal Gear Solid 4. This game will have to be as good as Gran Turismo 5 Prologue for me to buy it.
I like racing games. I have only tried the demo of Dirt, has anyone bought that game? If so, could you tell me if it's worth getting. It was fun to play, but I don't know if I should drop the cash or not.
err not even in the same league as GT
psn id: gingo.... no racing game will ever beat GT for realism but for arcadey games this is looking to be not too bad
GT is really overhyped IMO. I always liked Ridge Racer better
TOCA 3 on PS2 was great, and this looks pretty smart. But they're supposed to be going for a more arcade style of handling in this version, which for me will be a turn-off. There are enough arcade racers out there already; if they stuck to the simulation roots with this, it would at least be an alternative to GT5. If they go the arcade route, then GT5 will stand alone as a racing sim, and this will provide no alternative and no competition.
alright psu you really need to change the title thats just rediculous theres not even anything in the article that supports this and codemasters never said that (in the article)
until it gets a million preorders, its not racin ahead of no one
im sure tht this game will have its own tricks but i doubt it can top gran turismo 5 prologue.im not hating on it, it's just that gran turismo is the most respected racing/car game while this is a new franchise
Well the way I see it, it may beat Proluge in sales, but it'll be no where near GT5 sales, the only thing left to put into GT would be actual damage to the cars
Riiiiidddddddgggeeee Raaaacccceeeerrrrrrr!
Seriously, if this game turns out to be fun, I am all for it.
Looks good but wont rival GT Prologue.
even though im gettin gt i am more of an arcade racer because i like going fast and making turns i shouldnt be able to make but i like sims too but this game looks like it could be more fun than gt not as real but more fun
You know this was a game that passed me by at first but I think ill look into to buying this one. Looks great!
i seriously doubt this game will beat prologue , but it does look cool , altho the graphics are kinda MEH , is this a exclusive ?
I doubt it'll be even close to GT5, but It does look interesting.
@ 24. You think the graphics are "meh"? wow I mean okey prolouge looks a tad better but still the graphics in this one is really nice, maybe there is something wrong with your eyes? As for this beating prolouge, cant really tell. This is a full game and prolouge is a prolouge, so...
I will deffinatly get this one instead of prologue, race driver is known to have far better AI reaction than gt plus you get actual realistik damage to your car plus prologue is not a full game on the other hand for the realism for the driving simulation part no one beats gt (apart from colin mcrae when it comes to the off-road, this has always been a big let down to me in gt)
i was loved earler toca rice driver 3 but i don't think this will be good as GT5P but one thing is intrested that thing is modes and gameplay becuese GT5 P is simulation and realastic and this Grid is modes and gameplays and improved graphics i wish it's will be good to. but i eye on GT5P first then later this Grid :D
The PSP version was damn sweet, alot better then forza 2 on the xbug 180.
