Sony Computer Entertainment has confirmed it will be releasing a remodelled PlayStation 2 featuring integrated power supply in Japan from November 22.
As previously reported, the new model will be the exact size as the current version, albeit it includes its own built-in AC adapter and weighs in noticeably lighter than its predecessor.
The new model will be available in three different colours; Charcoal Black, Ceramic White and Satin Silver, and costs approximately 16,000 yen – the same price as the current design.
Meanwhile, a new stand for the machine will also be available for 1,500 yen.
Currently, there is no word yet on a North American or European release, though MCV announced last week that the model is expected to hit the US early next year.
UPDATE:
Sony has confirmed to CVG that other regions will receive the model, but "not until 2008".
Stay tuned for more information as it breaks.

This is an excellent move to back up the 40gb sku of the PS3. The PS2 will be cheaper in the states as well. With the huge library of PS2 games out there this is smart business.

?? I don't get it, if its the same size and all that ...why even bother. I'm really trying hard to understand how you can take the PSU, put in the machine and still come out lighter than what the PS2Slim is now.....and I don't know about you but I don't give a crap if the psu is in or out of the machine....well, unless its that monster brick the xb360 has....but the ps2's isn't that large nor very heavey
