Earlier reports indicated that Killzone 2 would run only in native 720p. Fortunately, Seb Downie, QA Manager for Guerilla Games has stepped up on the Official PlayStation forums to correct that report. According to Downie, Killzone 2 will also run in a native 1080i format as well.
"I got a message from one of our code gurus today about me talking about the 720p stuff I was spewing incorrectly and told me that we now support 1080i natively too. Glad they got that in too. Now rejoice!
This may be a small tidbit of news, but videophiles should find pleasure in being able to go on Helghast killing sprees in a variety of native resolutions.

Looking forward to this game so much, only have to get Christmas and the New Year out of the way then were nearly there. I played this at the eurogamer event last month and it was running in 720p, but to be honest the game looked so good and detailed i'm not sure if interlacing will make much difference anyway.

ok so here's my point .... if these guys can make a game look this good then why in the world can't insomniac make R2 look just as great????
Developers like these guys and infinity ward are the real deal.
Gameplay is great i understand that but if you can have gameplay plus next gen graphics wouldnt the overall experience be that much better ?
ANSWER: OH YA!

Sweeet.
@2 Wow really? Never heard of a TV running 1080i but not 720p!
@3 GG's have had literally years longer than Insomniac had for R2, not to mention a MUCH larger budget, I'm talking one of the biggest video game budgets in history. Of course it is going to look better. What Insomniac can do in such little time is nothing short of outstanding and they are a developer to be admired. -

@3 u do know that KZ2 has been in development since 2005 and R2 was done in 2 yrs. Insomniac are an incredible gamedevelopers who can deliver big games real fast, not to mention that r2 is Insomniac's 4th next-gen game.

720p ftw. my tv supports both 720p and 1080i, but it's native advertised resolution is 720p so im gonna go with that (plus 720p looks better than 1080i anyways).

If you have a 1080p hdtv then play this game in the 1080i video mode. Your tv w ill simply upconvert to 1080p. You should have a sharper image than the 720p video mode. I really do hope this game is NATIVE 1080i. TO Firista, there were HDTVs that only supported 1080i and not 720p.

Actually, 1080i looks better than 720p. However, 720p runs smoother than 1080i. So there's a tradeoff. I've seen MGS4 on 720p, 1080i and 1080p and there is a stark difference between all of them. But then again I'm one of those videophiles.
@3 - what? you got to be kidding me complaining about R2 and Insomniac. If they had the money and the time that GG had R3 would kill Killzone 2 hands down. But ask yourself, do you really want to wait for 3+ years for R3? (Edit: Oh, remember Insomniac put out RaC-FToD between R1and R2)

@ 3 - Killzone 2 had almost 4 years in development and ~$50 million budget. Insomniac deserves just as much respect as GG, considering Insomniac was the most noted studio helping GG with the PS3 architecture coding AND Insomniac has so far been loyal to the PS3 fanbase.
@ 16 - The eye can only perceive 57 fps and you notice framerate slowing down at ~27 fps. 60fps is only used when a constant framerate cannot be established and gives enough buffer that you don't notice when the game renders more slowly.
I hate playing any game in interlaced mode. Hopefully I can get my PS3 to output in just 1080p for this game, otherwise I'm sure 720p with be satisfactory.

@17
yeah, i guess 30 fps is a standard for First Person Shooters... but after Call of Duty 4 with their 60 fps, i guess i got spoiled. 60 fps will always run alot smoother than compared to 30 fps. and btw, 720p looks a lot better than 1080i in my opinion. there was a whole article about this stating something like "...for each individual picture frame to be shown, it would take about 1 second to show it for a 720p picture frame, while it would take the 1080i less than 2 second to show its whole picture frame..." something like that. i know we're talking like microseconds here, but if your a videophile it would be noticeable...i think...cuz i noticed it...lol

@3 Both look great for what they're worth. R2 - Scale; KZ2 - Cinematic; Both - EPIC!! Insomniac has been refining thier engine overtime and has been pusing out games like clockwork. If you go back a generation to this one, Insomniac has had a game out every year since 2002. That is just nuts!! Theoretically, if Insomniac had that budget of GG and the time, we would be looking at things very differently.

@ 20
SD is always going to look worse than HD 720p, 1080i, or 1080p. Theses numbers are HD formats.
As for those who think 720p looks better than 1080i that's because 720p runs smother. But, the actual frame, that is frame by frame, the 1080i will look better. Like I said before, It's a Trade off.

My tv is 1080p. Now I'll have to find out whether the game will be better on 1080i or 720p.

@
incorrect a1080i draws a higher resolution image in two images by drawing one set of lines then following another in 1/30 th of a second...so in measuring frames per second the 1080i tv draws an image of 1920x1080 while a 720p draws an image of 1280 x 720 , 1080 i is the resolution winner, but for smooth displaying of images 720 is great , but those with an LCD or plasma inputting a 1080i image it will be 1080p as it is deinterlaced

I think it's so funny when people say your eyes can't tell between 50 - 60fps.. I work in Media and if you said that here, you'd get laughed all the way home. Your eyes can perceive framerates in the 1000's and I can personally tell between 60 - 80 framers per second. It's not your eyes, you need to have an eye for it, you need to perceive the frames individually not jsut looking at the picture. So please, get an education in Audio Visual.
