Crytek ready for console battlefield

Crytek, the company behind the visually stunning and critically acclaimed PC title Crysis, has finally stepped up to the plate and declared that its latest CryENGINE3 is now fully prepped and ready for console development.
The developer has said that the new engine will be easily accessible to create games in a variety of genres, from action games to MMOs. However, Crytek is dubbing this engine as the only one of its kind capable of preparing consoles for the next generation of gaming.
According to Crytek's Director of Business Development, Carl Jones, "CryENGINE 3 will set the benchmark for complete game engine solutions in performance, and services to game engine licensees and their players," he proclaims. "We've been preparing a long time for CryENGINE on consoles and we're confident that Crytek will again amaze developers at GDC."
Crytek will be available to the press later this month for the Game Developers Conference. We're hoping they'll have a tech demo on display that will rival the prowess of Crysis on the PC but for our console domain.

@1 i agree with you in that it was a bold statement but KZ2 which i think looks incredible can only tie or barely beat only graphics wise wat crysis was, the thing is that crysis is already a year old and games usaully tend to look better the second time, so wat im saying is wat will happen if there is say a crysis 2 then im pretty sure it will just destroy killzone 2, thats why i think he is allowed to show that statement

Thats a good point Jigsaw. I always thought the whole console -vs- pc thing was a pretty arrogant affair with the PC side and Crytek is included in that arrogance. KZ2 was awesome and I think its Crytek who has to prove themselves, not the other way around. But lets hope they do eh!

i hope so, because after the graphical (among other things) awesomness that is Killzone 2 i feel like playing no other game until ps4 is released (or god of war 3, whichever comes first)

@2 fair comment, but if the next Crysis is going to be better because it's a year or 2 older and the next game always looks better, you would think Killzone 3 should smoke the rest of the competition.
In saying that, I think Crytek are 1 of my favourite developers.

@3 its not arrogance on the part of PC users (not all anyway) so much as its in the fact PCs are upgradeable and see newer better tech atleast once a year where as consoles are stuck with what they have for the gen. Personaly I dont game on PCs anymore but its based on microsoftpenis' monopoly on it (I want linux support) not one being better then the other.
@9, that was just plain and simple the most retarded statement Ive ever seen anyone say on this website. I thought all the idiot trendy kids begging for co op in EVERYTHING were bad. You just won the award, the RERE - DEE DEE DEE award.

THIS GOOD FOR PS3 GAMER, SO NOW I WONDER IF THEY WOULD PUT CRYSIS ON PS3 NOW , SINCE THEY GOT THE ENGINE FOR THE CONSOLE. BUT I HOPE THEY WILL MAKE ONLY ON PS3 AND NO XCRAP360 CUASE YOU KNOW HOW THIS GAME COMPANY DO, THEY SAY ONE THING THEN CHANGE THERE MIND LATER. In the hands of the creators of the engine it could be one off the best out there! But in my expiernce, when company's develop there game on some one else developer kit games seem medicore. They have to learn the pro and cons of the engine and they are restricted to that. Gamestudios should spend money on making there own engine than rather relying on some one elses! This is gonna be another overrated Unreal 3 engine!!!

Just keep the ps3 version separate 2 the 360.
No kidding, I mean Bioshock, Fallout 3 and Half Life 2 all looked horrible on PS3, I don't want PS3 to get in the way of the 360.
As for those saying Killzone 2 has set the standard I highly suggest you Play Crysis on the nice PC, it looks better than Killzone 2 also known as "Pretty graphics that control like a dump truck".

Firstly Crysis is easily graphically superior to Killzone 2 primarily because it need uber PC's to run it properly. Also you guys have to understand that while yes KZ2 is graphically very impressive it is in essense a corridor shooter and while bits of it are higly detailed it was never drawing as much as the open vistas of Crysis. KZ2 is easilt the best looking game on consoles BUT it genunely isn't as impressive as Crysis on a souped up PC, its truly magnificent to view hills rolling into the distance covered in trees and shacks and know it all exists and you can go there. The fact that everything is destructable as well is awesome, and I don't mean in a set piece kinda way, if you can, punch, throw or shoot it in real life you can do the same in Crysis, level entire forests and villages in glorious real time. Seriously if some of you had played Crysis you would know just how truly awesome a technical achievement it is.

meh! why are everyone cares about CRySi$? I dont care about CRySi$ graphics. KZ2 is better than CRySi$. all of you should be an idiot who are talking about compares from PC to Consoles. Im never played any games on PC. KZ2 is still the best game on PS3, ever!
SO we ll wait and see if CRySi$ 2 is the best graphic on PS3? (LAUGH) you really forget one thing is that KZ 3 will come very soon after CRySi$ 2 come out. KZ 3 will destory CRySi$ 2, 3 ,4 , 5, or 100!

I've neves played Crysis, but hear me. In a computer its easy to do whatever. With the consoles devs are limited to either the specs (liked outdated 360) or what they've figured out (future proof PS3.) Compare the specs of the PS3 to a suped-up pc & think of what they really could do graphicly and techwise once they realy get used to the specific developing procsess of a console, vs a plain as day pc anyone can do anything with whenever.
