Voice actor David Hayter has suggested that fans petition Sony Pictures if they are eager to see him pen a possible film adaptation of Konami’s popular Metal Gear Solid franchise.
Hayter, who voices Solid Snake in the stealth-action series, told IMDB forums: “As for me writing the MGS movie, tell everyone on-line to write to Matt Tolmach at Sony Pictures studios in Culver City. If enough people do this, we may be back on board.”
Aside from voice acting, Hayter is also an accomplished writer, having wrote the screenplay for the X-Men movie in 2000, as well as serving as co-writer for the sequel, X2, alongside Michael Dougherty and Dan Harris.
Hayter previously expressed his desire to see the MGS movie adapted into an animated or CGI film, in the hope that he would be able to provide the voice for Snake as well as penning the screenplay under supervision of Hideo Kojima.
Stay tuned.

I don't know about this one. Just because you do the voice for a character doesn't mean you should be writing the movie. Saying that you wrote for the X-Men movies doesn't help either because they were terrible adaptations from the show and comic books. I mean look at the first Xmen. Wolverine and Sabertooth were supposed to be arch enemies and they act like they never seen each other. That's just one small flaw of the many. I say let hideo kojima do most of the writing.

He's also written the script to the upcoming Watchmen adaption which even it's creator Alan Moore said is faithful to the graphic novel. Secondly, he wasn't the only writer on X1 and 2 and several decisions like Sabretooth and Wolverine were in the hands of Bryan Singer NOT David Hayter. Having said that, the X-Men movies did a great job of handling character development (not to mention are considered one of the best comic book films) David Hayter isnt' some hack screenwriter like Zak Penn, he does know how to tell a story. What better person to write a story about Solid Snake than the man himself?

I agree X-Men 1&2 are some of the best comic book adaptations ever. He has proven he has the skills as a writer. I think if they where to make a MGS movie he should write the screen play. However the writer is important but only part of the euqation. They would need a talented director as well. I've hated pretty much every video game based movie so it would be hard to make a good one espicaly one as loved as the Metal Gear series.

I just had idea what if they made an Anime movie with Hayao Miyazaki, David Hayter can do the voice and help right the script, if Hayter,Kojima and Myazaki wrote it together it would become a completely original version of the original Metal Gear Solid and would probably be awesome... I can dream.

The man co-wrote the scorpion king for god sake. The last thing he needs is to touch an MGS script

He's a good script writer but he's not good enough for writing the film, I personally think that Hideo should do it, he's the guy that created the story so why not let him write the script, and I wouldn't like the film to be cgi either. Final Fantasy VII as cgi is fine because it suits it but MGS is realistic (in the way the game is represented) so they should use proper actors.

i think a cgi mgs movie would be really lame. if they are going to make a movie, it should be live action, writen and directed by Hideo Kojima, It should be the story of MGS1, and both Solid and Liquid Snake should be played by Hugh Jackman.

@killercop - I'm with you on this one. CGI woulk be the best option for the fans, look at Final Fantasy Advent Children. That movie has awesome graphics and MGS could get to this level if they choose to go this way. No other than Kojima and the other guy who wrote MGS4 chould write the movie.

I don't think that a film of MGS is a great idea. If you think about it, the thing that made the games great was the ACTION not the story. With that in mind, could you imagine MGS with nothing but the story and a few action scenes thrown in for good measure. My god it would bore the bl00dy trousers off you!!! I love the MGS series as much as anybody but come on. If everbody was honest they would say that the action set pieces are what makes the games so good. To lose those would ruin the premise of MGS and convince the world that games and their story's are still a wee boy's toy. The world is not ready for us yet!

I say... let him at it. But only under the very close supervision of Kojima himself. The only way to do this series justice is to make it a live action film. Anyone who disagrees is a fool. Why would you want to make a 3d animated movie of this? Just play the game if you want to see that! What didn't work for Final Fantasy the Spirits Within would hold true to this as well. Live action, period.

Better Hayter than Boll.
But I saw an interview with him on GameTrailers.com, and he actually has a solid understanding of the MGS story, a good understanding of what it would take to crunch such a long and confusing story into a 2 hour movie, and he thinks the jump to live aciton would be too hasty, and should go the FFVII: Advent Children route (CGI movie). I think he'd do a better job than most writers. Remember how Roger Avery (co-writer to Pulp Fiction) botched Silent Hill??

I agree.
the MGS movie shouldnt be a live action movie. A CGI movie would be fine.
I don't think it'd do well for the series to see actors portray the roles of characters from a game as big as MGS. It'll change the way people see the character. -

I thout the first 2 x-man movie were based of a story, it was the third that sucked, and betrayed its origins. I think him, and Hideo Kojima should work together and make an MGS movie!

I hope Hayter gets to do it! He is a talented script writer and knows snakes character. That is a huge plus in my books as many hollywood writers would likely change too much for no reason. Xmen 2 was awesome. As a film adaptation MGS has far more potential than Xmen. Looking forward to it either way.

Are you people bleeding stupid? The first X-men movie was just that, the start of the x-men saga before all the rivalries had started douchbags. What do any of you know about screenwriting anyway? Go write a script yourself and then go tell David Hayter he isn't any good. The screenplay to the x-men movies were fantastic, it was the ACTING that sucked, so blame the overpaid actors, not the man who wrote the action sequences (which rocked). And since David has a closer relationship to Metal Gear than any of you pricks or any other screenwriter, this should be a no-brainer. What, do you think there has been a bevy of brilliant screenwriters doing videogame movies? They were all garbage, and getting a cheap scriptwriter for the sake of staying on budget to make room for CGI will kill the movie. Hayter will do it for whatever the offer is because he's a big fan of the story and games, and won't let his ego get in the way of the movie's budget (by asking too much a la Michael Ironside for Sam Fisher).

I would be awesome if he could make the voice voice of snake in a CGI film!!!!. Also he helped in the story for MGS: Portable ops for the PSP, and it was a really cool one. I really hope that Hayter and Kojima get involved in this film.

It must be and it has to be CGI. Think about it, David Hater looks nothing like Snake, and even if you do find someone that looks like Snake he won't be able to do the voice like David. God forbid they dub Snakes look alike with David's voice. That being said there is only CGI and only CGI. Besides, we all love those CGI cut scenes in Metal Gear Solid. Why the heck not make a movie the same way?
