Demon’s Souls coming to PS3 in the west

The PlayStation 3 is virtually void of role-playing games compared to its competitors. Thanks to Atlus U.S.A, however, the “groundbreaking action RPG experience” known as Demon’s Souls is coming to North America in the fall.

Atlus announced today that it secured North American publishing rights for Demon’s Souls, a “beautiful, compelling, and unforgiving” game that the company believes is perfect for the hardcore RPG fan. The game will have online features that allow you to team up with two other players in simultaneous co-op action and it will offer challenging PvP battles.

One unique feature of Demon’s Souls is that players leave clues for those following in their footsteps. Your bloodstains will allow others to see a replay of your death, in an attempt to help you progress further.

Demon’s Souls features include:

– A combat system that features the best of an action game and RPG. You can slide, smash, and shoot enemies.
– Network features allow players to leave hints for each other; replay death scenes, cooperative revive dead players, or invade another player’s game to wreak havoc. The online features are meant to change and intensify the single player experience.
– The open-ended game provides no single path. You will set your own pace and progress as you like.
– The World tendency system changes the aggressiveness of monsters and the rewards for killing them based on the players’ action.

The game, developed by From Software, is already available in Japan. Early reviews indicate the game is extremely difficult. It’ll be interesting to see what, if any, changes take place for the North American version.
