Dualshock 3 hitting North America in early 2008

Posted on December 10th, 2007 at 09:26 EDT

Apparently the new Dualshock 3 controller will become available to purchase in the U.S. some time in early 2008.

According to Engadget, the PlayStation 3 firmware 2.01 update released on November 20 contained a hidden message under the asterisked notation for "Vibration Function", stating, "[Dualshock 3 will be] Available for purchase in early 2008."

The new controller allows for both SIXAXIS functionality as well as adding enhanced vibration ability. Games such as Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, Uncharted: Drakes Fortune, and Haze will all be using the technology when it becomes available next year.

Stay tuned for more info.

Im happy to hear we are getting it back. My question is, will it support PS2 games for when we want to play our old games in HD on PS3? Either way I will be sure to pick up a couple of them. More then likey Game Stop will swarm all over this. "Trade in your old PS3 controlers + $15 for a Dualshock3"

Already have one. It's worth Importing, it's not that much and it makes playing Uncharted and R:FOM so much better.

@ Xdeth, yes PS2 games do rumble with the Dualshock3 controller.  And it does make Uncharted a whole lot better.

Good deal there.....wait....didn't we know about this once it was first announced!?   Let us have some "new" news dudes, seriously, I was at least hoping there was going to be a street date listed once I saw this - but then I just figured it was PSU trying to hit us with more late news.  Thanks?

By "why do these yanks always get stuff first??," do you mean "why do these yanks always get stuff first, after Japan??"? Most of the places in the world call that second ;)

I'm definitely psyched for the dual shock 3! it's just a shame that i'll have two controllers that dont vibrate once the dual shock 3 becomes standard.

So it would be awesome if sony offered a trade in promotion where you could trade in a sixaxis controller plus like 15$ for a Dualshock 3.....

My co-worker is going to Japan for the Christmas and I am sending for two white DS3 controllers....heck, I might send for four and sell off two to three of them and make a killing. Here in the Bahamas games and accessories tend to go for double the USA price and the dollar value is the same here as in the US.

Awesome, it's just that I don't want to pay 59 dollars for another controller when I just bought 2 perfectly fine Sixaxis's. But still, I might buy one of these some where down the line.
