EA signs massive in-game ad deal

Posted on July 26th, 2007 at 13:29 EDT

EA signed a huge in-game ad deal today with Massive Network.

EA senior director of in-game advertising Shelby Cox said in a statement, “EA is committed to providing both great entertainment experiences for gamers and effective advertising solutions for brands and marketers.”

Massive CEO Cory Van Arsdale added, “The addition of EA’s leading titles to our network represents a tremendous opportunity for brands targeting the youth demographic and sends a clear message that in-game advertising has arrived as a compelling medium for marketers.”

Massive Network delivers ads via broadband that can be changed in real-time. A billboard in a game may have an ad for Coca-Cola one day and the same billboard could be promoting the release of a new movie.

Great. But I like Pepsi....who's with me?!?!

Well come on guys if EA are being paid a lot of money for advertising in there games then the game has been paid for. so why don't they give the game away free! or for only a few quid, and has anyone ever thought of giving us an option if we want them in a game, there should be an option for the user to turn off the adverts. BEING PAID TWICE TO DO A GAME, WHO'S GETTING RIPPED OFF HERE THEN,,,,,US.

I'm a Pepsi guy lol But that's cool that they can advertise new movies coming out. Now I don't have to look at the billboards in the real world to find out about them lol.

Okay.. I mean I dont see if this makes a huge difference, they already advertise in games anyway (as they said, on billboards n stuff like that). However this *should* theoretically be benificial to the consumer as this, once again, *should* lower game prices. But at the same time this is EA we're talking about, so I seriously doubt that.

Guys dont you get it, if EA are being paid to make a game with a advert then the game has been paid for. so why should we pay for it again! Am i the only one that can see that.

Well, I think that as long as the ads don't interfere with or interrupt the experience of the game (the way a tv commercial does), then the company can charge as much for the game as people are willing to pay. It would be good PR, though, no doubt, to lower the prices a bit for "ad games."
