When you hear the name EA Sports, you're usually expected to think of their flagship title, Madden football. Madden has been running and selling strong for the past 20 years of gaming and it looks as though that isn't ever going to change. With EA Sports getting ready to release their 20th Anniversary installment of Madden NFL 2009, you can expect a little something extra in the form of a Collectors Edition release.

Madden is expected to hit retail shelves on August 12 and not a day later. In a press release sent out today, EA had the following to say:

"The Madden NFL franchise has a rich history, and we're proud to be
celebrating it with this definitive video game package," says Peter
Moore, president of EA SPORTS. "Featuring two deep and innovative new
standalone games, as well as a host of exclusive bonus content, the
Madden NFL 09 20th Anniversary Collector's Edition is the ultimate
interactive offering for both long-time Madden NFL fans and anyone who
enjoys football on Sundays. I can't think of a better way to get your
NFL fix than to enjoy everything that's unique about both Madden NFL 09
and NFL Head Coach 09, and then connecting and sharing content from
both."

With the ability to pay a mere $30 USD extra for the Collectors Edition of the game that includes not only Madden 2009 and special features about the series history, but you'll also be getting their other release title, NFL Head Coach 2009, which is making its return after a short hiatus.

"Both Madden NFL 09 and NFL Head Coach 09 are deep and unique gaming
experiences that will truly immerse sports fans of all ages, skill
levels and playing styles," says Chris Erb, EA SPORTS director of
marketing. "With the Madden NFL 09 20th Anniversary Collector's
Edition, we're bringing two great NFL games together to create the
definitive football offering."

As we're sure some of you are more than anxious to get your hands on this next release of the Madden franchise, we plan on keeping you up to date on the title with whatever news is released. We'll be covering not only previews of the game but a review of title upon release. Head coach blows and Madden is just a patch of the previous years. Gotta love the line "mere $30 more" nothing mere about wasting money on this junk. If only 2K could have the NFL liscense and compete maybe just maybe Madden would finally produce a good game. Pipe dreams i guess, I wait a month and get it for 35$ off of EBAY or out of the used bin at EB games.

everyone that doesnt play sports games complains about madden...but everyone that plays sports games knows that madden is THE sports game of all sports games!!!so stop complaining...people who play madden...love madden...and seeing as madden has been goin for 20 yrs compared to 2K's, wat...5-8...i think we know that everyone will complain about it but when it launches 3 million copies will still be sold and up to 10 million until the next edition comes out

Hopefully Madden and their creators don't treat the PS3 like an UGLY duckling.....again. Our system is more powerful and has more prowess than a 360 Elite does, and that Collector's Edition isn't worth it.It is much better to play than coach so i'll go with 60$ not 90$.

Madden sucks big time. I'd play All Pro Football for the rest of my life before I touch another garbage madden game.

I have bought every Madden since its inception....And it is nowhere near the game it should be after all this time. Gameplay has gotten worse, not better. That's a shame.

Madden will always trump 2K! I know madden needs work now, but it will always bring the national hype and excitement around the U.S. like it does year in and year out.

EA can continue to make garbage madden games and people will still buy it. This game could have Super Nintendo graphics and it would still sell like hotcakes. Because its the only NFL game their is. no competition

What I think would be really bad-assed is if 2K remade its last officially licensed NFL football game with current gen graphics and some tweaks to the gameplay. I mean, the contract states 2K currently can't make an official football game, but what about simply remaking one of their past titles before the line was drawn? How cool would that be?
