Guillaume Brunier, Producer for the PlayStation 3 version of EndWar, recently blogged about the process of porting the title from the 360 to Sony's machine. Apparently, it will be -- gasp -- a good port.
"First things first, it’s not the team’s intention to deliver a poor PS3 experience," says Brunier. "Relieved…? Nah, you’ve already been told that a zillion times… Fair enough, but then listen (or more precisely read) what we have to say.
"We are actually sharing some key members to make sure we provide the same experience on both platforms. Working together goes both ways so whatever worthy implementation is done on one side is taken by the other side."
He continues to talk about platform specific motion controls (which are already enabled in the current build), as well as the PS3 content, which contains "the exact same feature set as the X360 version."
"It will not be a walk in the park," he continues. "The main challenge is to adapt the game architecture, which was thought for the 3 cores of the X360, to the Cell and its SPUs. That’s what giving headaches to our engine team. We are working especially hard on the performance side so that we provide smooth gameplay at all times, even when many units are firing the crap at each other with lots of SFX involved. We’re also looking into specific PS3 Anti Aliasing, since it’s done by the system on X360."
While it's a no brainer that it's difficult to port a 360 game to PS3, at least the EndWar team is making a valiant effort to create an equal experience, which we hope ends up excellent.

this is crap why does ps3 always get the crappy port. when will developers stop being so lazy and develop for the ps3 first.
Ps3 doesnt always get the crappy port. Look at CoD4, Elder Scrolls, Burnout Paradise. Developers are beginning to unlock some of the PS3's potential. Be patient, and you won't be disappointed.
burnout was done on the ps3 first then ported to the 360....i think COD4 was like that also but i could be wrong...elder scroll i know was not like that but from what i heard from people it did have its moments...till they made the better game of the year edtion one for the ps3...but yea most/all ports to the ps3 are always crap
why in the heck didnt they just start development on ps3 smooth move xlax
and tofu elder scrolls came out a year later on ps3 and cod4 and burnout paradise were both created on ps3 first soo its a little different
if they screw up this game im going to be a little ticked ive been looking forward to this game and they should've known better than to start development on the 360 when numerous devs have said its advantageous for both consoles to start developing on ps3 first
PSN ID: tatti.....
TofuOnoPhD COD 4 is not a port. They made it seperately for each system.
The moment I read "360 to PS3" port, I immedietly skipped the rest of the text, cause I know I won't buy it now. There's been testimony from game devs that it's easier to port from PS3 to 360, and not the other way around as evident in this article.
After the first Rainbow Six Vegas, no matter how hard you try, you'll never be able to replicate the full 100%. The problem with that is that the descrepency value is taken out of the PS3's performance and quality. An example of this is say a 90% difference from the PS3 version. That 10% is..
Bad Anti-Aliasing
Poor Lighting
Poor Performance in Draw Distance (think helicopter scene)
Low Audio Problems
Glitching out to XMB
Resolution Scaling Issues (can't do 1080i even though advertised)
Mandatory HDD Installs
That's ALOT of issues for just 10% huh? Think twice people when considering buying a 360 port. Not trying to be a fanboy, but considering I paid $60 and I get an inferior version of a game that someone else bought and got a better deal? I don't think it's fair. Either charge us less or don't bother making a port.
if you read the text you;l see the guy specifically talks about reworking code to work with the PS3's cell and adding AA. If it was a straight port they'd just do the simple thing and it'd be out already.
im buying it. it loosk awesome! u guys can go ahead and miss out on it just because its a port if u want...
I thought this game looks amazing. I believe it could be a good port. I do agree about creating on ps3 first then porting over to 360.
I agree, i dont believe devs should cash in on sloppy ports, it really is cheating the consumer by giving them an inferior product for the same wedge. I will not buy games like rainbow six because of the port issue, and lets face it their are more than enough FPS's out there to be choosy
Sooner or later they will realise the error of their ways!
Here we go again! How many times do you people have to be burned? Look up a Rainbow Six:V2 story and in "releated stories" click on the article where UBIsoft says: "RB6:V2 will NOT be a port". A FLAT OUT LIE. Not only was it a port, it was a bad one at that. Listen, this hurts no one more than me. I've been jonesin' for an RTS for some time now (on my 360, which I got rid of, I played Battle for Middle Earth II ALL THE TIME), but you guys better read many reviews before you support Ubisoft again with your money (like that glutton for punishment above that says he's getting it anyway). When I heard RB6:V2 sold 2 million copies, I had a cow, though I know that most of them were 360 versions).
FPS and RTS is PC only area for me.
games can be made on ps3 and ported to 360, it will be easier to port BUT it costs more money to make a game on ps3 then 360 and it is also easier to make a game on 360 so they make it on 360 then port on ps3, ITS CHEAPER and its BUSINESS
@ Ryoma maybe ur right but they will b out of pocket when no-one buys the ps3 version then i bet they would b kickin themselves 4 not developing it 1st on ps3 then portin 2 xbox. Oh well eventually they will realise especially when they dont meet financial targets
As long as they actually do a good job then the game should be fine, all we can do is hope. I agree that Ubisoft have been doing a rubbish job lately with there ps3 games, they better not stuff up Far Cry 2
@15 I thought they said that abut R6V2. I was pretty psyched when I heard it too, until the game came out. It's a decent game, but there are a lot of issues and you can definitely tell it was a port. (like the Comcast level, what a joke)
I'm interested in EW but I'm not holding my breath. I've spent way to much money on crap port jobs. I'm glad to hear the are takign the time to make it work with the Cell and AA. The only way we will ever get a solid multiplatform game, is if they dev it from the ground up like in COD4 or build on PS3 first.
One less game Im going to get
@HazdoTT... It is now fully apparent that text messaging has ruined the world.
@meatee: My thoughts exactly.
What was the last game Ubisoft brought to the PS3? Oh yeah, RainbowSix Vegas 2. Was it a broken port? Yes, yes. Don't screw it up this time, I really want this game.
ok make it on the ps3 first then ,problem solved
Quit porting start making games for the PS3, Why don't they make a game for the Wii and then port it to the 360. Thats the same thing there doing with 360 to PS3 port assbackwards, make PS3 first then port it down to 360.
Why are they porting games so much now I remember when they just made to unique copys that had diffrent things on them... But then again I must be old.
PSN: DarkJ3JB
That's just BS. By now, they should have a solid PS3 architecture already done. If you first come up with an archtecture that fits the 360 and THEN try to bend it around the Cell, the result will have a lot of cracks.
Good "ports" doesn't include porting the friggin thread and work management based on the 360 achitecture. Good ports means porting the content rather than the engine. Sure it is cheap in a short term perspective, but expect this one to be just as crappy as other ports done this way. And why they heck don't they just scale back the game if they find themselves with port running at a solid 17 fps.
Given the number of good games coming out there is absolutely no reason to even consider a game where the main remedy for crappiness is "We are actually sharing some key members to make sure we provide the same experience on both platforms." ... I mean... WOW !! You really went the extra mile here guys !! Sharing key members !!!!! Jeeez... now THAT'S a commitment.....
Why even bother with ports? Look at CoD4 & Burnout Paradise... both awesome games developed from the ground up for the Playstation 3! Why can't they just do that? It makes the game better on both consoles!
Only first party games or exclusive games for me from now on.
Wow f**k this then why should I bother with a port on a game that won't even be all that great anyways.
port ...... I hate that word.
psn id: gingo.... i will believe it when i see it, the only way so far that ps3 has had a gd version is when they are being made simultaneously or when ps3 is used as lead platform
