Gran Turismo Producer Kazanori Yamauchi has said that Polyphony Digital is looking to implement car damage into the series “very, very soon.”

Speaking in a recent interview, Yamauchi commented, “We really, really want to put damage onto our vehicles.”

“We’ve had a lot of discussions with the manufacturers and although at the beginning they hated the idea of deformation, now they’re slowly coming around to it. We’ve still got a few to convince, but we will. Expect deformation in the very near future: very, very soon.”

Although he did not state whether or not deformation would appear in the full version of Gran Turismo 5, due out in 2009, he did reveal that the inclusion of downloadable content would continue to play a key role in expanding the series on the PlayStation 3.

“Obviously, we wanted to do a next-gen Gran Turismo,” added Yamauchi.

“When the PS3 appeared, we realised that we needed a lot of time to develop properly on this hardware, so we gave ourselves four years to come up with a complete programme. As a result, you’re not going to get Gran Turismo all in one go, but gradually, adding online elements and features as we go. The good thing is that it’ll have a long, long lifespan.”

Stay tuned.

Now we can all say that gt is a real simulation driving game and not just a realistic bumber car game, how can the other driving games compete with this supremacy? just hope they work on the AI to make the races more interresting and challenging

this is good news, although it does strike me as odd that so much fuss is made over this damage thing. maybe thats why burnout has no real cars.

You know with all the added features so far to this game. I don't care if they waited to GT6 to put it in. My biggest problem with the series was always 6 cars on the track at the same time, and in 2 player mode only 2 which was boring. Oh yeah and the fact that the other cars don't see you and ram into you.

psn id: gingo... i really dont think GT absolutely needs car damage but if car companies are willing to have it then it is a good addition and expansion to the series

Sweet. I welcome it! To all those not wanting damage, a simple "turn damage off" option would work eh?
