FFXIII to be held back on PS3 due to Xbox 360 version

During the DKS3713 event yesterday, Square Enix director Motomu Toriyama revealed that the US and European versions of Final Fantasy XIII will be held back on the PlayStation 3 due to development of the Xbox 360 version.
In a behind the scenes video produced by Square Enix's Tetsuya Nomura, Toriyama reconfirmed the development plans for Final Fantasy XIII.
"We haven't changed the direction of the development," said Toriyama. "We're making the PS3 version first, and then porting to the 360 later."
With the PS3 version complete and hitting Japan in 2009, PS3 gamers in the United States and Europe will have to wait until the Xbox 360 port is done. According to Nomura, his team didn't receive Xbox 360 development kits until a few days ago, so depending on how long it takes the Square Enix team to port the title, the U.S. and Europe may not receive Final Fantasy XIII until 2010.
As his final comment, Noruma stated that the PS3 version will not suffer due to the Xbox 360 development.
"We aren't going to change any specifications because of the multi-platform announcement," he said. "Right now, we're fully concentrating on the PS3 version."

Was this the "Big Announcement" to "swing the ball back to Sony" ? or maybe it was a demo of the game coming in March '09 ( if you buy FFVII AC Blu Ray of course first). Well Square were correct, I am shocked...just not in the way I was hoping. !!

FF13 was the reason I bought a ps3. I figured, you know, all my favourite rpgs would be on da ps3. Now Im told ive pretty much wasted my money in a sense. Wer gettin nuffin but lame fps sh!t really. MGS was a welcome change but you know thats 1 game.
Im seriously considerin gettin an xbox coz this is fr!ckin ridiculous. I mean I've had my 60gb ps3 for over a year now and theres no sign of any rpgs coming any time soon :(.

the thing is MS would pay them just to port it over, but if they aren't released the same time, the hype might die and the game might not sell as much. I think its smart decision from their side, but not good one. Well i dont mind as long as the ps3 version is done first and remains untouched, and we wont wait that long because porting isn't all that much specially when whiteengine is multiplat engine.

I think most of you are jumping the gun here. Personally, I'm glad that multi-platforming has started. That means I might get stuff that used to be exclusive to other systems and enjoy them without having to buy more than one machine. It's all about the games not the "ride" you pack.

Would the Ä$$box pleasekillme tw@s know anything about Final Fantasy. I don't cause I've never been arsëd to pick up a copy of Final Fantasy on the last two playstations. Seeing how Kräpo$oft would try to show a suitcase of 1 billion dollars to Hideo Kojima and try to get MGS4 on the XKräp Motorcycle RS 360. This just proves Micro$coft have no innovation and suck major bälls. Qüeers of War 2 to be honest its a overhyped piece of sh!t

Man this is really going to hurt SE. If all these ppl on here stick to what the say and dont buy the game, then SE will see that they made a bad move. They are going to wait on releasing the ps3 version because they want to get the xbox version done to release them out at the same time. SE... your stuppid. Sony is what put you on the map and made you who you are today, you will lose all of your true fans. So with not as many sale you were thinking coming from the ps3 just to make it for the xbox.. you will just break even with all the money it took to make the game. You didnt have to hold the ps3 version to make the xbox version. You dev's are getting more dumb each day.

well i must say that this is really bad news for us all. it is showing us all that devs are gonna be easily persuaded by lump sums of cash from console companies like M$ etc. the gaming industry has finally gone down the crap pan with this one, for me. the only thing i want to know is, when is it gonna end, and what will the state of the gaming industry be left in if this type of BUYING OFF carries on?

when square said they were putting on the 360, i didn't care cuz I assumed that they were gonna make it superior to the 360, and i thought that was the direction they were going when they said they were making it first. NOW THEY'RE HOLDING IT BACK??? SCREW FF XIII!!! SQUARE IS JUST HANDING OUT ONE DISAPPOINTMENT AFTER ANOTHER!!!

I don't care about FFXIII anymore . SE should learn how to be loyal to its fans because it became one of the top gaming companies thanks to them . I don't think I'll buy this game but I will wait for the ''shocking announcement'' if there's any , and I hope they please their fans who made them who they are now.

Ok you guys really need to stop and think for a minute. Stop Bein F***kn CRYBABY's. Look its idiotic to think that if you dont buy this game for the PS3 when its released that Square will suddenly realise that they were wrong and start putting more exclusives on the ps3. What they WILL Realise is that a popular franchise DOESNT SELL on the ps3 while it sells a CRAPLOAD on the 360. If you are loyal to ps3 you will buy the games multiplatform or not so devs realise that their efforts were not in waiste and that PS3 owners will still buy their games! Look theyve already stated that they're developing with the ps3 as the main platform and it still looks flippin awesome even though it is multiplatform.
Unless youre an idiot you would realise that the only reason Square even took the money was because they needed it to help fund the development of the ps3 version. I believe that one of Microsofts terms was probly that if they gave them the money they would HAVE to release both versions day and date in America where the majority of the sales would come from. I repeat Square is an excellent company with flawless production values when it comes to rpgs, we are still getting an excellent game. Stop whining and please buy the game unless you really do want the ps3 to die a slow painful death.

so if i want this game i'm going to have to learn Japanese now? that's great not only make your game exclusive until M$ buys you a dev kit and lets you keep the change from a $Million but keep all your fans that have chosen to buy a ps3 because of ffXIII, waiting because you want to shaft us so 360 owners are happy because they get the game at the same time as everyone else. it's the principle that makes me angry more than anything

i might just give into microsoft if annocements like this keep on coming, the console war will be won in 09 and tbh i want to be on the winning side, if that means getting a 360 and trading in my ps3 so be it!!!! there only game consoles at the end of the day!

damn thats messed up its like they dont care about lloyd fans who supported them for 10-20 years. mainly on playstation SONY better pushed to get FF XIII out here in NA.. since this is this the place where they need to gain more ground and pass 360. if a demo is there big announcement they was better off keeping that to them self's. i can see if they gave a march release date for FF XIII

Sorry, but some of you guys are plain slow. WHY, WHY does it matter FOR THE GAME ITSELF that FFXIII is coming out on 360? THEY ARE COMPLETELY MAKING THE PS3 VERSION FIRST. NO quality loss on our end. YES, its annoying that its delayed because of it, I agree thats stupid, but why the heck would you NOT BUY IT when it comes out because of THIS?
You would buy the game and think its good just because it was exclusive? Thats your only reason for liking it?

This is a situation in which boycotting will only lead to less games being made for PS3. There is no way to stop a multiplataform from selling more than a single console game. It sucks, but just gonna have to suck it up and just be grateful its coming to the system at all. The only real problem is they filled our minds with the concept of system exclusive and then made last minute changes, thus loosing a lot of credibility and bringing this epidemic of disapointment.

Even though i dont play RPG games , this is a concerning trend, Square Enix have completely lost all credibility for one reason, They say they are delaying the PS3 version of FFXIII so that they can port it to the 360 for a day and date release, however The Last Remnant gets a timed exclusive release for the 360 due to delays in developing it for the PS3 , if square enix were an honorable company that game would be delayed on the 360 so a day and date release could occur there. Shame on you Square Enix, dont piss down my leg and tell me it's raining

square have gone out there way to actually hurt ps3 n ff fans this time,..too far and i am thinking of not buying ffvs13 now even tho its an exclusive....basically the ps3 version will be finished n ready to enjoy but we cant play on it till the 360version is finished which is probly a year behind the ps3 version now they changed the dates to 2010 from2008 .hahahahaha my god if any one buys this game now tut tut,microsft must of payed a lot for it tho

it might be microsofts fault but it's more SE then anything. This is SE's fault and personally if I have to wait till 2010 because of their stupid decision, they can stick that game where the sun don't shine. That right there is probably the most selfish and total bs thing they could have done. I have been so burnt out from the FF series but this truely sucks the big one and out of all the developers that could have done this, it had to be Square/Enix.
Sometimes you just wonder where their heads really are.
