FFXIII to be held back on PS3 due to Xbox 360 version

During the DKS3713 event yesterday, Square Enix director Motomu Toriyama revealed that the US and European versions of Final Fantasy XIII will be held back on the PlayStation 3 due to development of the Xbox 360 version.
In a behind the scenes video produced by Square Enix's Tetsuya Nomura, Toriyama reconfirmed the development plans for Final Fantasy XIII.
"We haven't changed the direction of the development," said Toriyama. "We're making the PS3 version first, and then porting to the 360 later."
With the PS3 version complete and hitting Japan in 2009, PS3 gamers in the United States and Europe will have to wait until the Xbox 360 port is done. According to Nomura, his team didn't receive Xbox 360 development kits until a few days ago, so depending on how long it takes the Square Enix team to port the title, the U.S. and Europe may not receive Final Fantasy XIII until 2010.
As his final comment, Noruma stated that the PS3 version will not suffer due to the Xbox 360 development.
"We aren't going to change any specifications because of the multi-platform announcement," he said. "Right now, we're fully concentrating on the PS3 version."

not a big fan of final fantasy but, that is very upsetting that a once exclusive game for the ps3 now has to be held back because of Squares' greed to port it to the 360. This is one of the worst decisions that could ever be made!

wow....thats honestly all I can say is wow. First , they break exclusivitivity with PS3 and make it multi-plat. Then they promise a shocking announcement and its just a demo! THEN they push back the ps3 release just to accomodate the xbox 360 and to release it at the same time on a console that wasn't suppose to have it in the first place!

That's somewhat enough. I'm not going to wait 2-3 years for some game. Especially when it's going to be held back just because of xbox360.
square-enix has really lost it, but well it's most likely microsoft paying them load of money and it won't even help them. I'm pretty sure that all the FF fans will be getting ps3 since then you also get ffxiii versus.
EDIT: That makes me wonder if ffxiii versus will hit the stores before ffxiii. -

Don’t blame SE blame M$ that are like Disease spreading an infecting everyone that seduce people with money and it’s very hard to say no to big amount of money when they are offered its just that M$ or AIDS of gaming world that describes them better are giving people big amount of money and human nature always works first for himself so they agree to make their game bad but get more money or make Ps3 version look like **** and get more money so blame AIDSSOFT selling low level products to us and covering it all up with money.

Ok....soo..I'll admit, I'm ppleased about the titles going to the PSP, and yeah, I'm happy about there being a demo...but really, I'm sorry, but thse people have a VERY warped view on whats considered 'shocking'. I'm picking up both FF13 and FFvs13 and the announcements have cemented my decision to buy a psp, but next time, they must look in a fricken dictionary before going on about a 'shocking' announcement.

Wish it was a timed exclusive for PS3, so I can get it sooner.. oh well. - is it true PS3 is "Exclusive" in japan? My friend keeps saying it isnt... that the xbox 360 version will be there too. His only proof, the announcement FF13 is multi-platform >_>

Considering they need to do voiceover and translation. Here is hoping the porting takes less time. I can't say I feel a supportive attraction to SE games any more. I have great respect for Kojima and Nomura but other than that, I think everyone else is in it for money more than the passion of milking a single system for all its worth.

Oh come on that is so not fair the least they could do is make it a timed exclusive, we've been waiting years for this and it was only announced for the 360 a few week ago and they have less time to waiting overall compared to us and on top of that it's delayed as a result!!! I'm not buying this game (not that I had planned to) SE are treating us like garbage so why should I fuel such a company!!!

I guess this was the big Announcment they were talking about.
Well done square, at the time you think that these guys cant get any worse, you get something like this.
BURN IN SE you are not in my fav list anymore (used to be 1st).
WHY? U RE%&^D said that "we underrstand that people want simountanioese release, and starting from now we will do it so everybody is gonna be happy".
This game was developed for ages and still NOTHING! Iam not gonna wait for this game for another 2 years. SE stick it up your ..... together with MS and their 360. Hold back the game just cuz u want to get more money, THEY CAN WAIT. Not us you told us long tiem ago its exclusive.

Ditto. Konami is my no.1 now. Atleast THEY keep their promises. Or is that Hideo Kojima?

Hopefully this wont affect Versus at all. That game should truly shine by not being hindered by being multiplat.

what's really f.cked up about square-enix is....the last remnant was suppose to be released simountaneusly ps3 & x360 as a worldwide release. now they say the ps3 version is having problems, square-enix is still releasing it on the x360 1st, why can't they fix it,finish it & still release it simountaneusly.in plain words they r not waiting for us ps3 owners, but we have to wait 4 ff13 to be ported to x360!!! square-enix is full of sh.t!!!

Obviously I can't say it often enough: MONEY TALKS - DEVS WALK
That's the way it unfortunately rolls - get over it, we have NOT the Might to change this. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a total pessimist but the last announcements (not only by Square) have proven my theory!

That's a good idea, but forget it. You can't get Americans to "go without" anything. The only thing we can hope is that FF13 (which I have decided not to buy at this point) is released at a time when it's over shadowed (or just, "thunder stolen) by other games that people are looking forward to at that time. That would be justice. FF13 is now a non-issue. Accept it. But remember this kids, the first rule of business is supply and demand, but the 2nd is "the consumer is always right". If you don't like what's happening, tell SquareEnix with your money. If you right now KNOW you are getting FF13 no matter what, please stop complaining. YOU ARE THE PERSON THAT THEY ARE COUNTING ON. WHEN THEY THOUGHT "HMM, WE ARE GOING TO SCREW SONY FOR MONEY, CAN WE GET AWAY WITH THAT?" THEY SAID "YUP, THOSE PPL WILL GET OUR PRODUCT NO MATTER WHAT." Are they right? Is it true? Are you getting FF13? You are? Oh, then you approve of what happened. You approve of it with your money (the only thing that speaks to these people...they DID it for money, remember?) Don't believe anything else.

im speechless......first they say its going to the 360. then they say that because of the 360 the ps3 version will be held back. Square isnt being very loyal to all those who have been loyal to them(myself included). im really disappointed at this road square enix has taken.(final fantasy will be a great game but one has to wonder how many more dissapointments will follow)

U see... Money talks and has the final word i presume ;)... Microsoft is going to the top the easy way... buying of ps3 exclusivity rights to third party companies... This has been microsofts trend of late... They cannot compete against Sony without showing a few million dollars to game developers ;) amazing ;)
