FFXIII to hit Europe within a year of Japanese release

Square Enix has said it hopes to have Final Fantasy XIII on shelves throughout European territories within one year of the game's Japanese release.

Speaking to Videogamer, producer Yoshinori Kitase reflected on the length of time between U.S. and European localisation of past iterations in the series, before adding that the firm is looking to speed up the process for FFXIII.

“Obviously we would like to release it over here as soon as possible,” he said. “Traditionally the Final Fantasy numbered series, it takes about half a year between the release in Japan and the release in North America, and another half a year before it’s released in Europe. But we would like to minimise this, this time.”

“For example we have already started recording English voices, and also the text localisation has been in progress, too. Normally we complete the Japanese version first, then move on to the US and EU versions, but this time there are some tasks that are happening simultaneously. So this time we’re hoping to release sooner than a year later than the Japanese release.”

So, if all goes well, PAL gamers can expect to get their hands on the game by Christmas 2010 at the very latest. We’re counting down the days.

Awesome-o, would be better if they just gave the english speaking countries the same version as the US so they can be released at the same time and released it to all the others after.

Because this takes a crap load longer to localise, much much bigger game and script, much more text to translate and every single NPC in the game is voiced, FF games have a ton of NPCs

They have also most likely started to port the 360 version now to parts of the game that are complete.

I will import the US version anyway :D'

Is it really that hard to just use the US version for Eurp? or does japanese think that some small spelling changes or something really matters and takes half a year to change?

    • 12:00pm BST - May 5th, 2009

Europe usually gets things later because of all the other countries, if only games could release in US and the UK at the same time an then release to the other surrounding countries in europe later.

Instead of delaying it for the UK.

You know, I did play the NA version of FFXII on ps2

way before it was released here in the uk on Feb 2007.

Looks like i might have to do the same routine again with FFXIII lol

end of 2010? I predict it will be shipped much more earlier then that, maybe in summer 2010? :/

Couldnt care less tbh, for XIII or verses. Im not waiting years for release of a game thats atmosphere just gonna mirror 12. Game is a joke, square are a joke, anyone still think its gonna be something speacial is living in denial or is a graphic wh ore. Plenty other games out that deserve your 60 quid. Square go back making trash for 360 plz, ur time is up.

    • 2:43pm BST - May 5th, 2009

I do agree that square is taking too long to make this game and I for one will be getting both FF13 and Versus, and for those of you talking smack about square can STFU cause honestly without them FF7 would not exist, They are the best at what they do and that is making RPG's, so take it easy

stfu? lol. One game made over 12yrs ago by squaresoft ant enough redeem square-enix for last 5-8ys of shi t games, delays and quite frankly abandoning there fanbase, if you think that please let me know what your smoking.

In my opinion, Japan hates us for bombing their territories and so they decide to deliver their games to us late?

SE, I'm sorry, you guys really bite, I'm done.   I wont purchase this game, I am just to heavey in the FPS multiplayer aspect of this game.  Sony, please come out with an MMORPG.   FF is definitely not the best, I have played better RPG's.  I highly doubt the armor will change if you even get armor.  good quality video's, cheap self characters.   I really don't care anymore about this game, it's dead to me.

  38. ferret66

    • 11:07pm BST - May 5th, 2009

I love how everyone keeps complaining, but unless you know how big RPG's are, and the fact the SE isn't the biggest company out there, then you should stop arguing.  It'll get released, and anyone who was interested before will buy it..

    • 1:26am BST - May 6th, 2009

That's just retarded, I'm really dissatisfied with Square/Enix. It would be better if the company spit up, Enix at least did things in a timely fashion.

ha this is one of the reasons im learning japanese (the main reason being my interest in anime and Japan itself) which remids me i've got till around Christmas to be be at least semi-fluent so i can understand the plot  (i can still complete it even if i don't understand the story but it would be less interesting) I found that from importing Crisis Core i can see what's going on but i don't know why.

@37 what game are you talking about? This is About Final Fantasy XIII not some FPS with armour and multiplayer. Also i don't think Sony will get your Message, maybe you're confusing this with MAG?

honestly unless you live in japan how could you be excited about this damn game who cares about this game anymore i think this game will have bad sales when it hits the u.s. because people will either stop caring or forget about it because it takes this S**T SO F**KING LONG TO RELEASE!!!!!!!!

  42. MatrixSixaxis

    • 5:55pm BST - May 6th, 2009

I wasn't expecting anything different, that was the period I was expecting them to deliver it outside of Japan. So long as quality isn't compromised.
