Fallout 3 "better" than Oblivion, says Bethesda

Pete Hines, Vice President of Bethesda Softworks, has stated that he believes the company’s upcoming post-apocalyptic RPG Fallout 3 is a “better” game than The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.
"I don't have any doubts that on the whole, and I think this is a belief universally shared on the team that Fallout is a better game," Hines told Videogamer.com.
"But we're also not oblivious to the fact that we have a lot of extra baggage that we're carrying, being the guys picking up this franchise, that are re-imagining this series from 10 years ago, and there's something that comes along with that. We're very well aware of what we're up against."
"I have no doubts in my mind that, at its core and for everything that it provides that Fallout is a better game than Oblivion was. For sure,” said Hines.
Oblivion was met with critical and commercial success upon its release on Xbox 360 and PC in 2006, spawning two official expansion packs and numerous other downloadable content. The RPG eventually made its way to PS3 the following year.
Fallout 3 is scheduled for release later this year on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.

Oblivion is great, but all it did was make me wish that the other people I saw were other player characters online.

Are you a fan of Japanese RPG's, the prior Fallout games or both?

Doesn't really require much to be better than Oblivion... That game wasn't that good, when you think about it. Pretty mediocre.

WTF?!? I've clocked over 200hrs on Oblivion and it's one of the best RPG's I've played, EVER. Yes, I've played FFVII and FFX and all that, and they were one of the greatest games ever, but so is Oblivion.

I agree with Gingo. Screw FF. I hate hearing "FF is the best game EVER" It sucks. I hate them. This is a different type of Rpg. Bethesda even said "But we're also not oblivious to the fact that we have a lot of extra baggage that we're carrying, being the guys picking up this franchise" They know they're changeing the franchise then what it was origanlly. That's spelled wrong.

@ 4 I don't really understand what is so great about JRPGs. I really despise them, even final fantasy. I loved Oblivion though and Fallout will be great too.

I'll get this game when it's cheaper, but I think I would prefer the elder scrolls to this but I haven't played it or anything so who knows. I had no intention of getting elder scrolls IV but it came with my PS3, I had no idea what to do at first because I'm not really into RPGs but about 6hrs into it I started to get to grips and loooved it!!! I hope it's like that with this game.

Both, but I don't dislike WRPGs either. I just found Oblivion really boring. They ruined it with the leveling up system, compass (there was no real sense of adventure when you always knew exactly where to go), crappy AI & NPCs overall (revolutionary "like real life!" NPC behaviour my ass), craptastic plot etc. etc. etc. The only good thing was walking through the woods and seeing some of the epic environments.
Way overrated. And from the clips I've seen from Fallout 3, seems like they are ruining it with all the new things. Not that I'd wanted it to stay exactly same as Fallout 2 (the best PC game ever), I just don't like anything I'm seeing in Fallout 3. The battles seem really bad and from what I've read from hands-ons, the dialogue is almost as bad as it was in Oblivion.

I think that Oblivion is a better game than any of the final fantasy titles, just because I like the free-roam do what you what when you want type of gameplay. Plus, the game was pretty in depth with it's crafting system and the storyline was great as well. I like jrpgs, but most are just cookie cutter clones of an era gone by. They do feel nostalgic in some ways, but get boring after some time. I think FFX was the last jrpg that really captured me. If they could implement Online coop multiplayer in oblivion/fallout it would really set those games at a new level.
