Farrell: PS3, 360 to enjoy strong success this cycle

THQ President Brain Farrell has stated that he expects the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 to turn in a solid performance in the on-going console battle, suggesting that both machines have “lot of firepower left in their arsenal,” despite the early success of Nintendo’s Wii.
“The way we're thinking about this cycle from a high level is, the Wii at that lower price-point had a lot of momentum early in the cycle,” said Farrell, speaking at the Morgan Stanley Technology Conference.
“But as Sony and Microsoft come down the price curve those two should accelerate, and there's a lot of firepower left in their arsenal.”
Farrell also commented that he expects both machines to enjoy strong sales in the current hardware cycle.

Um...Gingo...Ninja Gaiden 2...Too Human (first of a trilogy), Gears of War 2 (november), Fable 2, Mass Effect 2...to name but a few...
Don't get me wrong, i love my playstation but the 360 has no shortage of AAA titles on the way...add to that the number of games that are coming out in the next few months where the 360 was the lead platform means they're gonna be going for a while...having said that, a lot of devs are putting the PS3 as lead platform so the next round of games will be more Playstation oriented.
All in all, i think this is pretty dead on. If M$ stop humping out all the FPS and TPS games they can and concentrate of on some other genres we might see some major competition...looks like it's a good time to own both consoles...

I agree with gingo here aswell. 2008 will be good for the ps3. wid store updates bringing more games, demos classic games. also line up of games for the ps3 like WipeOut HD, MGS 4, Motor Strom 2, RFOM 2, The Getaway 3, The Agency and don't forget about Home which looks amazing. PS3 RULES

I have to agree, I think both the 360 and PS3 will do great this season. My only problem with the 360 is the fact that they rushed it to market leading to many issues (Loud fan, ring of death!!!), the biggest in my opinion, the lack of an HD DVD drive. Now first I laugh at them because I am a Blu Ray Adopter and if they had put in an HD DVD drive, I am almost sure HD DVD would have won. The thing that pisses me off the most however, is that this lack of High Capacity Storage, is causing all 3rd party game developers to code for the 360, because that can not port all games from the PS3 they are just too big, Heavenly sword for example had an 11GB audio file for crying out loud, it would take 4 DVD's to get it on the XBOX, now the same thing with Metal Gear. How good could the 3rd party titles really be if they had included it????? I guess we will see in a year or two when the PS3 Exclusives roll in!

I think that this year will be a lot bigger for the Playstation 3. I feel that Xbox 360 sales wont really jump substantially again until Gears of War 2 comes out. But, when it comes to the PS3, there's Metal Gear Solid 4 in the middle of the year, at it will make PS3 sales skyrocket... I bet even some 360 fanboys will be picking up the new 80GB MGS4 bundle because it's only coming to the PS3. Also, there's Sony big guns at the end of the year: Resistance 2, Killzone 2, GT5, and Final Fantasy XIII that will make sales skyrocket as well. As long as those titles don't get pushed back, this year will be legendary for the PS3. The only thing that has me worried is that Resistance 2, Killzone 2, GT5, and FFXIII might get pushed until 09' and that just can't happen because the PS3 needs blockbuster games and it needs them ASAP.
All the Xbox 360 has this year is Gears of War 2 and Halo Wars. I don't even consider Ninja Gaiden 2 a big threat at all because God of War 3 is going to blow that game away. As long as Sony can keep it's games scheduled to be released in 2008 without getting pushed, this year will be Sony's year. Microsoft had it's year in 2007 with Halo 3, Bioshock, and Mass Effect, and now it's Sony's time to dominate.

I think both consoles have good games. But I think the PS3 has a much better library coming to it. Absolutely they need to make sure those blockbuster titles come out as scheduled. If they get pushed, not only will it be disapointing to most of us, it will also hurt sales I'm sure. I do belive that this is sonys year.

360 has indeed got less firepower than the PS3. Blu-ray, more exclusives, better exclusives and besides that the best exclusives from 360 (Mass Effect, Gears) are both coming the PC.
