Square Enix has confirmed that PSP remakes of Final Fantasy I and Final Fantasy II are going to be released in Europe in early 2008. Each game will be released seperatly and both have been completely renewed for the PSP.

Character art has been modernized, new areas to explore have been added, and the best part, enhanced visual effects have been designed to fit the PSP’s widescreen. Final Fantasy will see the introduction of Labyrinth of Time and Final Fantasy II will see two new dungeons called Arcane Labyrinth and Arcane Sanctuary. Final Fantasy II will also be equipped with new equipment, enemies and a new boss to battle.

“Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy II are the foundations of the Square Enix success story. With these beautiful new versions, fans can now experience the origins of Final Fantasy wherever they go,” stated John Yamamoto, president and chief executive officer of Square Enix.

Final Fantasy was released in Japan in 1987 for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) and then later released in the United States in 1990. The plot focused on four youths called the “Light Warriors” who each carry one of their world’s elemental orbs, which have been darkened by the four Elemental Fiends.

Just one year later in 1998, Final Fantasy II was released in Japan, also for the NES and was centered on four teenagers whose parents were killed during an army invasion. The four joined a resistance to end the invasion leader’s war. Although never released in the United States, remakes of the game have been released for the PlayStation (Final Fantasy Origins) and Game Boy Advance (Final Fantasy I & II: Dawn of Souls) and of course Final Fantasy II for the PSP in the US.

How about a 20th year anniversary  of the Final Fantasy series for the PS3?!?  Either a remake or port of the older games, and of course this would make a great bundle with FFXIII/versus!!!

    Wouldn't that be nice?! :)
