Final Fantasy XIII maximized for PS3

In the latest issue of the Australian Official PlayStation Magazine, Yoshinori Kitase from Square Enix made some reassuring claims for PlayStation 3 fans everywhere. Kitase took the opportunity to discuss how far along the title actually is while Hashimoto wanted to let PS3 enthusiasts exactly what to expect quality-wise from the game.
"The scenario is pretty much complete and the artistic side is about 80% complete," said Kitase. Of course this means that a decent amount of polish is still left to make the title shine like it needs to, but it's good to know how close the game actually is to releasing (in Japan at least). Fortunately for PS3 owners, Kitase clarified exactly how important their Sony fanbase truly is to the company by reassuring owners that the title will be maximized for the PS3. He announced that "the team is looking to specialize it for the PS3 so that the game will be maximized [for that console], and then they will port it over to the 360 and utilize the capabilities of that console."
This is definitely good news to hear from Square Enix after such a long run of disappointing events.

they will pretty much say anything at this point to try and keep ps3 fans happy. I have to tell you its not gonna work. the game has to be dumbed down regardless. Either in terms of content amount or they are changing 20% of the game becuase they so called finished 80%. Its all BS

I find this statement confusing because these developers who say oh we have done it for this console it can't be done on the other system, take MGS4 for example. So in effect this is untrue it can be done to be ported on other systems even if it is maximised for one system.
Since both systems have roughly the same horsepower, it is nonsense about this blu ray having the advantage andi have this and that. Since a technical showcase like ff13 is possible on both

I'm trying not to want 360 owners to get a glitchy port because I consider myself not a fanboy and I'd want the best for both consoles, but something deep inside me is just willing SE to make the Ps3 version better, I just want 360 owners to feel some of my "pain", This would make me grow closer to them...

@2
Probably true, but unless you can prove its a lie, then it has as much chance of being true. Its not as difficult to design a game around the PS3 1st & then port to the 360. The only real difference between the consoles for games is space to a great degree where games are concerned.
Basically, it will not be dumbed down or watered down for any console ( from what they are trying to say), but the PS3 version will play to the PS3 strengths, such as HDD & BR. The 360 version will likely be as good, it will just have to be done differently to deal with the space issues ( multiple discs).
The simple fact is, if it can be done on one console then it can be done on another. Lets not forget that this is an RPG that doesn't require many multiple things to be displyed on screen at any one time ( PS3 strength). So it should be equally good on both systems, provided 360 owners don't mind multiple discs.
This hate is silly IMO.
Too many people are sounding like Playstation fans when they call themselves FinalFantasy fans. Im a fan of both and Im glad to see MS concole fans see just what the Playstation franchise had all these years that they may have missed out on. This is a good move IMO for gamers, although not so great for the PS3 bragging rights.
Calm down people & enjoy the game when it comes out.

Nice post #10.
Guys, think of one thing about "porting".. A game designed for one console then shifted to another console afterwards might be easy, SOMETIMES. I reckon it'd only be easy if the designers intended or knew that at some point they'd have to shift it over, otherwise they'd design it for one console, then afterwards have to f**k around with the code and edit it in for the shift. It's not as if they can just drag and drop the game files and have them automatically converted for another system (Imagine that eh?!) :P

"Hey guys sorry we pissed you off so heres another line of BULL" If they wanna please me they are going to have to announce the PS3 Version as a timed exclusive. Even if the game was 99% done we still have to wait for the port to be made cuz M$ won't let a single game debut with Sony. Am I the only one who notices that even on the commercials for multi-plat games the PS3 logo is all but nonexistent? And they keep doing that "first on xbox" thing, why doesn't Sony advertise?

ChrisXL, aren't you the little voice of reason now. If I had the millions of dollars to make a game developing company I would do so. Give me the money and I'll show you what people want in a game. LOL
regardless, I am burnt out from the Final Fantasy series. The stories are good and all but it's just to much of the same stuff. I can't help but think that this game's story will be no different then FF12. Even some of the enemies are the same as in FF 12.

OMFG this is what gets me mad people who come on a ps fansite then whine about fanboys lol, dont come on ere then no one forces you.put being ps3 fanboy aside,if you was actually final fantasy fan you would also be fuming since the game can`t be what it could if it stayed a ps3 exclusive and the release put bk for the 360losers. game exclusives is what is needed not everything being the same.having something unique is what makes life interesting. @20 dont worry i`ve noticed all the adverts promote the xbox360 version of the game in the uk, dont know bout other places

@10 If something that can be done on one console can be done on another then why did kojima say he could not put MGS4 on xbox because it was optimized for the ps3, but he would consider it in the future if their (xbox) technology is up to it. Also I am a FANBOY I say it loud and proud I have had playstation since ps one. Never had to replace a console (still have my working day one ps one, and ps2) I prefer quality over quantity they may have "more AVERAGE games" , but they have also owned more consoles(RRoD). So call me a fan boy cause alls I am doing is stating the facts. REMINDER- This is PLAYATATION UNIVERSE a playstation fan site not CRASHBOX 3FIXME's fan site!!!!

I think it's a lie. The will have to prove to me that the PS3 version is better to get my money. Since they can't offend would be 360 buyers they can't do that so no money for them.

@ GunTeng
That's not the point. PS3 people don't want to know that a game, that was supposed to used the FULL specifications of the PS3, won't do so now. My problem is keep games exclusive, what's the point of multiple systems if all the games that come out end up on all the systems? That's stupid. It's not about fanboyism - is what it is I bought the PS3 for FFXIII, FFVersusXIII, MGS4, Killzone 2, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, Tekken 6 and I bought the 360 for Condemned: Criminal Origins, Gears of War, Mass Effect, Bioshock, Left 4 Dead. These games define their respective consoles so why should they go multiplat? For the sake of more money - I don't see how gimped, ported/mulipltaform games for the sake of more sales is best for the gamer

see when developers start making games that UTILIZE the capabilities of the specific system we get different results and not cross platforum watered down crap.
wii - utilize motion controls
PS3 - true hd stunning visuals and processing
360 - limited storage, upscaled "hd" - consider it the poorman's PS3 -

I understand the reason why exclusivity matters and it does matter to a point.
But this is one game. I know all too well what it means to have specific games on the console that you bought. I bought the PS3 for specific games as well and when one of them fails to deliver or has an element missing (FPS from Socom) then it does hit the gamer a lot (me).
But the simple fact is, everyone is moaning about a watered down version of FF13 for the PS3 because its also going to be on the 360, yet they can provide absolutley no proof. they can't even provide any comprehensible reasoning why this might be the case. It is possible, but al you have to go on is what you are told & no one has stated anything about a gimped FF13 apart from angry gamers.
Just as I have to deal with a Socom without its traditional FPS mode, people like you are just going to have to deal with a multiplatform FF13. At least you can still play the game. So suck it up already people....its not going to change.
I could see through it if the PS3 version of FF13 was gimped or cancelled, but this just isn't going to happen IMO. And asking for FF13 to use the full specifications of the PS3 is silly...name me a game which does so? Name me a game that is likely to do so? What are the full specifications of a game?
Don't you realise that some games will not even go near the amount of power capable in the system? Its an RPG for crying out loud. Its not going to have any need for AI, complicated physics or anything else you would find in other genres. Just what is it in the game you think the 360 would be unable to handle? The only thing that would matter to the RPG on a technical aspect is size/length. Nothing is preventing the 360 from dealing with this that multiple discs will not solve.

What is everyone whining about? This game is going to be great regardless. It's funny because, I already know the 360 port will sell better just because half the PS3 crowd is butt hurt about it not staying exclusive, and that will send an important message to SE. Who knows, maybe all their future games will be MS exclusives? I could care less as I have both, but I will be buying it for the PS3 either way.

There will always be more developers friends come and go its just business unless the 360 version gets exclusive DLC like Rockstar did with GTA im sure its a safe buy. Hopefully this will teach sony a lesson FPS should never be your only trump card you should have learned that from MS now all RPG's are on the 360. Now look whos on top..

okay listen idiots, and if you don't know who the idiots are then you are one of them because the people with intelligence know I'm not talking about them.
They are making it for PS3, they have designed the game long ago, combate, graphics, music scenerios, all of this stuff was decided a long time ago, and was planned for the PS3, ust because these things are designed this way dosent mean they cant be ported after the fact to another system. It dosent mean the PS3 isnt superior or even that the 36* is on par with it, it just means they never sought to over play the PS3's strengths from the begining. They simply wanted to make another good looking RPG, This is not a political case in any way they simply make games.
When the port is made for the 36* it will probably come on 3 DVDs because of all the HD graphics they had to create for the game which is half the reason they're making a 36* version in the FIRST place. these things are expensive to make when they have to fill a 720p - 1080p screen instead of just a 420p screen.
As for why they're making 36* games at all, Let's make it absolutly clear that while many of you hate the 36*, it does still have an advantage in terms of how many units are sold worldwide. it has a slightly higer user base and SE would be fools not to try and get some of their money. It's a BUISNESS FIRST.
Consider yourselves slightly more educated for having read this.
