Firmware v4.00 update details

Eric Lempel has posted an update on the Official PS Blog for PSP owners interested in what would be included in the next firmware upgrade. The PSP which is already coming up on the big v4.00 is expected to see increased functionality within its Google searches as well as more user-control over movies on their memory sticks.

"This new upgrade replicates the Google Internet search experience, delivering the same search results that you’d get at www.google.com. And with a search history recall of 20 items, Web searches couldn’t be easier.

"Another new feature delivered through the 4.00 update is the ability to change viewing speed during playback of videos stored on your Memory Stick PRO Duo, so you can speed through or slow down what you’re watching. To do this simply press the up or down directional buttons while playing a video."

It's good to see the Official Blog continuing to be so hands-on with the community and keeping all of their users up to date with everything going on. When the firmware officially releases, we'll be sure to let you know.

    psn id: gingo.... psp updates are usually followed quickly by ps3 updates so this should be a strong sign that firmware 2.4 is coming

    I myself thought it was related to the 2.40 update. My heart fluttered for a second, there. haha.

    that's not much of an update i was expecting something more than google and being able to watch movies in slow motion how about a way of streaming my psp to my ps3 rather than just one way round so i can use my psp on my tv without paying $180

    I think they should have in game xmb for both psp and ps3. It be more practical for the psp because you can listen to music while playing or if you have to stop playing video games you can keep listening without losing a beat. For the PS3 it be nice, but I just use my psp to listen to music while playing games, so its not that important to me, but Im sure for other users who want to chat with other people while playing that would be beneficial.

    It would be nice if the update would have better functional capability for Remote Play.  So far, that "extra", sucks.  No matter how hard I try, I can't get the PSP and PS3 to stay synchronized.  My PS3, somehow, disables "connect by internet" settings, all on it's own.

    They promised us DivX support. it's time to cough it up! what's taking so long!? Guys seriously this is a post about the PSP when they say something abot the PS3 and forget to mention 2.4 then complain, until then shut up already.

    I doubt ill use this feature, I was excited when the title read "Firmware update" but, then suddenly became sad when the title followed with "for PSP". I thought it was news on the new PS3 update.

    Just check out the blog and see what others are saying about this update. They are completely trashing it and bashing sony about 2.40 for the PS3. It's some of the funniest stuff I have read on the net in some time. People completely disreguarded this update as nothing but a joke. It seems the whole PS3 user fanbase is staring intently on sony for the release of the elusive FW2.40. which unfortunately is probably gonna come in july and not the 18th

    Why on earth would I want google support in my psp when the browser itself is utter rubbish for simple tasks such as checking one's email? I found browers in other portable devices such as the Nokia 95 way better than the one in the psp.

    @ Altrbridge102 - you may be right, but I'm sick of reading this crap even in totally unrelated articles. 2.4 will be released as and when Sony see fit, and all the requests in the world won't see it released any sooner.

    Is it me or is this update quite rubbish?

    I mean, who wants to have more search history and google results similar to the ones on a PC? I thought 4.00 was meant to be something big, like in-game XMB for PSP, not this crud

    This sounds a bit like FW 3.95. Why not add new visualisations, Rock radios (Hip Hop, Jazz WTF!) or even a upgraded browser with the latest flash, new features and Divx support now that sounds like Firmware 4.00
