Further Delays for Blacksite Area 51

Joining the ranks of games being delayed on the PlayStation 3, Blacksite Area 51 has been thrown in the spotlight as it has recently announced a serious lack of online features. While this itself is a let down to anyone looking forward to the game, Ars Technica is reporting that there may be more missing on the PS3 version of the game.

Earlier this week, voice chat and ranked matches were effectively taken out of the game, and today, a further delay may be in the cards. Speaking with insider sourcers, Ars Technica has posted an article claiming that Midway is displeased with the PS3 version of the game, due to several missed deadlines and other technical issues.


While this is only speculation at this point, the Unreal Engine may be the source of these problems, with Stranglehold and Unreal Tournament 3 also being delayed on the PS3. The obvious trend here is multiplatform titles being developed using the engine. These delays could, however, be set to allow for further optimization of these games using the engine.

Midway will release these games when they are finished to standards, which is good news, despite the inevitable delays. Its better to play a complete game months later than to have an unplayable game sooner. On a down note, it seems that the PS3 demo for Blacksite may be delayed as well.     I was really let down by this game following the announcement of a reduced multiplayer...this got removed from my wishlist, when its restored, midway will once again be on track to get my money.

    Homo.. i was looking forward to this game but the more i hear about this kinda cr@p happening the more i tend to think that perhaps its not worth buying.

    I'm not even going to consider renting this game. It's just one big disappointment.

    who cares since there last bit of news everyone and there brother said they were not getting this game and i am not getting it because the lack of clan. o-well just wait for the next one

    maybe this means they'll put the missing features back in. I hope so, otherwise I won't be getting this game.

    midway isnt happy with the ps3 version? probably because they realize us ps triples know better than to buy a lazy port. ive stuck with exclusives like R:FOM , H Sword, WarH, R and C. the only port i have is oblivion. Developers give us some decent ports. btw cant wait for uncharted and haze. those 2 should keep me busy until killzone 2 in january. so yeah take your time midway. you kinda sorta maybe still have a chance with bull'''' area 51.

    I have to agree with the rest of you guys, unless they sort out this game properly and add in all the mulitiplayer features that the Xbox version will have, then theres no way I'm gonna buy this title.

    Whilst we need a selection of games desperately - I think its even more harmful that they release gimped product on PS3 that does not atleast match the version published on Xbox 360. It really gives the public the wrong idea, and it makes PS3 look sub par.

    ill get this for my 360, this game is good but they shouldnt release a ps3 version if it hasnt not the neccessary features that the 360 got.

    Another team strugglin with the programmin i think they need a modern apprenticeship under their belt in how 2 do their jobs,employers; people @ Insomniac or naughty dog will train em up

    psn id: gingo.... well its up to epic to fix the unreal engine and makei t acceptable for use with ps3 but midway are clearly lazy because they have left out a lot of stuff that is in other ps3 games

    Haze, Uncharted, Assassins Creed, MGS4 and Killzone 2...I'll have 'my' hands full with those sweet little bits of goodness for a while, so these simple delays of B and C grade games is of little concern to me and others with similar interests :) Don't even start me on GTA4...

    Well this game does not look to be as good as the first one. I was going to get it but with the announcement of no voice chat or ranked games, it came of my list plus david is not doing the void so it will not be as cool. So even if they do get this stuff fixed I will not get this game sorry midway but you are slacking off

    WOW this is getting ridiculous why are all PS3 games delayed and not as good as the Xbox version? I really hope Sony does something to help out these 3rd party devs. I  feel like the systems hurting now more than ever and I dont like feeling like that.  All these problems with delays, warhawk issue,R&C glitch, EA crap ports when will it stop? Im really getting tired of it all.

    Umm, Unreal Engine 3 was tweaked specifically FOR the PS3, I don't understand how that could be the problem.

    Well, I for one am HAPPY that they are not releasing this game yet until they find a way to add all the features for the PS3 version, I would not buy any game ever again that has multiplayer without voice chat or ranked servers, WHAT WOULD BE THE POINT?! Unless it's just single player that is.
