GTA IV smashes Guiness World Record

It's official! Grand Theft Auto IV has become the highest selling entertainment item within its first 24 hours of release.
The highly anticipated and hot selling game sold 3.6 million units and generated USD 310 million in revenue. The mark was previously held by last year's release of Halo 3, which sold a mere USD 170 million when compared to GTA IV. When compared to other entertainment media, the fastest-selling box office release, Spiderman 3, sold USD 60 million and the fastest-selling book, Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows, sold USD 220 million.
The news will come as yet another praise for Rockstar, which amid much criticism from the media and government, managed to reach the USD 500 million mark in the first week meanwhile topping charts worldwide since GTA IV's April 29 release.

Great game, but hope about an update were you can hook cars up the way you want to and buy things other then cloths. just a few items to have for the after play other then online. I like riding the city so I'll like to do it in style in the maybach with rims and a custom paint job.Just a few things like that will be great. even let me own places to make more money, run warehouses and stores... d trump of gta. Just would like to keep the game play of gta4 going as long as possible until gta5. lol

the game is boring ....just goes to show what HYPE will do for a game. On a side note, it's funny to see that the biggest game in history for first day sales is a violent "ADULT" game ....society is crashing in around us and we LOVE IT!!!! ha

Yeah, You are right about Halo 3, XB2B1, except the difference is....Halo sucked majorly, I even own a 360 and thought it was boring.

I've got my collector edition and I'm gonna take my time to finish it at 100%, just need to find the time to play it, lol! For me gta4 is better than what I expected, thank you R* for this excellent game and f*** you EA for trying to get your filthy hand's on this franchise!

@ XB2B1: HALO3 may have had a smaller install base, but GTA IV also went up against 'book-worms' and 'movie'-goers'! These have a world-wide install base that spreads from toddler to grand-pa and beyond!
Is that a "worthy" enough comparison to YOU???

XB2B1, you definitely have a point but even if Halo 3 was multi-console, with an equal or higher installed base, I highly doubt that it would have sold as well as GTA IV. This game, GTA IV of course, can probably be passed off as the most anticipated game in history.

I am a little upset about the fact that I don't have it in my house at the moment. I pre-ordered the special edition but I just moved to a location that is kind of far from the store and I have a crazy hectic schedule. I'll seriously try to go and pick it up before the end of this week, but if things don't go as planned, I'll try to get it before the end of May. I know I'm missing out on so much. Everywhere I go I either see or hear GTA IV, GTA IV! I can't wait until I get it! Breaking records, gaining commercial and critical acclaim, racking up revenue. Man, I love it! While I know it's going to be excellent, I can't see it, GTA IV of course, being and/or getting any better than GTA: San Andreas (excluding graphics, which is obviously, without a doubt, a superb evolution, since GTA graphics weren't exactly the best, LOL!!!!) because that game was perfect and endless. The best PS2 game period. Since GTA IV is not a PS3 exclusive (which is ridiculous and is something I'll never get over) it's kind of difficult for me to label it the best PS3 game, especially since the PS3 is still so young and there is still so much more to come our way. But GTA IV is surely the best multi-platform game (thus far). Sweeeeet.
