Game Streams: Play PC games on your PS3?

New software allowing games to be streamed between computers will allegedly allow users to play PC titles on their PlayStation 3 console, according to the latest Internet reports.
The service in question – “Streammy Game” – provides members with a special plug-in, which converts software into IPTV channels, allowing it to be sent over a home network. This is then picked up by a second PC/laptop allowing the user to play the title.
Despite any obvious assumptions, Streammy Game CEO Richard Faria has also claimed that there will be no lag experienced during gameplay.
"We are embarking on a new paradigm in the gaming industry fuelled by advances in computer hardware, network speeds and the want of gamers to have more freedom. We network the power of their main PC so it can be used to play high end games on other PCs and laptops around the home. I believe the demand for high resolutions will drive the sales of high end PC hardware", he stated.
Stay tuned for more information as it breaks.

Now that'd be awesome.. you could pick up some of the 360/PC exclusive titles and play them on the PS3 without needing the hardware on the computer (that is what i presume can be done anyway right?). Either way i hope this info is concrete cause it'd certainly be handy.

If there is little information to support it, and we should take it with a pinch of salt, then why bother saying anything at all? I'd be interested in something when it's proven to work and I was hoping that's what I would have read. Unfortunately not...

Well, if true that only makes possible to see the game on the TV through the PS3 but you can do that right now with a video card that outputs to TV... you will still have to use the computer controls (mouse/keyboard) to control the game, not the sixaxis... pretty useless if you ask me...
Also, you will be hurting the computer performance conveting the video into IPTV and streamming...

How does this work? Currently only 2D PC games "maybe" playable on the PS3, 3D would require dedicated graphics drivers to be written for the RSX, so can't see how Crysis etc could possibly be played on the PS3- anyone knowledgable enough to explain how, without driver support?

You can do this alredy! its called remote desktop in the pc world.
ok hear is what hapens:
1) plug keybord and mouse in to ps3
2) boot in to linux and use VNC to log in to the Windows computer.
3) you can now use the keybord and mouse conected to controle the windows pc. e.g play a game.
All the ps3(linux) dose is pass keybord and mouse movement to the pc and the pc send's the screen output back to the VNC aplication wich will be running full screen. sound is also pased through the network to the ps3. all processing for the game is done on the PC end all the ps3 does is show the video and audio output from the pc. (very simple such that this works fine at 1024x768 even though ps3 linux has no graphix driver)
This reported aplication will probaly just let you run VNC from the XMB insted of using linux and add suport for the sixaxis controler.
p.s. this will only work using a wired conection as pc games are high res and have fast moving images and you will need probaly a 100mbit conection for this to work properly.

ZOMG, this is HUGE. What this means is that we have to have a robust gaming PC, that will then pipe images to the ps3, and then the ps3 will pipe inputs back to the pc, just like the psp/ps3 remote play. BUT BUT BUT! Just think. If you are playing say Gears of War, and it is streaming to the PS3 via the PC, what would happen if you then hooked up the PSP through remote play through the ps3 while it was linked to the PC? Gears of War on PSP FTW!!!! This hopefully will work the same way TVersity does, as I can login Remote Play to the Ps3, then stream video/music from my computer. Can your 360/Zune do that? HA HA sucks to be a Microlimp fanboy these days.

What? I don't understand this at all. If you already have a PC that can play these games, then why the hel.l not play them on your PC? Unless this takes the hardware of the PS3 AND the hardware of your PC and puts them BOTH to use, to have insane graphics, then this is absolutely pointless.

Hibble... this can't be remote desktop, like you say, it already exists, and has done for many years. Even the PSP has the ability to remote desktop (given then right software), you don't need a PS3 at all, in fact the old Xbox will do, which you can pickup for pence these days!... I don't get it

OK will explain again.
you will need a good pc as it will do all the work! yes this includes a grafix card as all grafical efects are renderd on the pc. you will also need to put the disk in the pc(unless its istaled with a no cd patch)
so its just like remote play on the psp.

I've just purchased a beast of a PC with Quad Core running 3.33GHz, 4GB Memory and 8800GTX with 768MB of memory. Ive got another PCIe slot for a second graphics card in SLI so I'll have 1.5GB of dedicated video memory. This thing kills - Ive clocked up about 50 hours of gaming in the past two weeks. So I'm set for Crysis, Call of Duty 4, Spore, Empire Total War, Far Cry 2, Sabotage, Insecticide, UT3, Assasins Creed, Gears of War, Kane & Lynch, Hallgate London, Blacksite 51, DMC 4, Fury and the Witcher. - Mean can I play this many games in a year? Ive just finished Bioshock and will play it again, Im halfway through STALKER and finnished FEAR and the first expansion but both FEAR & STALKER have another expansion coming out next year - I'm going to be busy...
Now if I could set up a PS3 to play some of those Xbox 360 games my mates all keep sticking under my nose - Id have it all and I'd be very very happy.

No, I understand remote desktop, I use it myself. But I don't think this article refers to that... I mean, "remote desktop" big deal! The title quotes "...on your PS3" not "...via your PS3". What's the point of spending £1,000+ on a PC, then using PS3 as a serogate controller? Remote desktop makes sense for running applications at a distance, but not games in the same house!

But PSU forgot to mention that you need to have Linux on your ps3 to be able to download/install the plug in.
