Gran Turismo 5 Prologue will apparently be a free download on the PlayStation Network when it is released. According to Yamauchi in a Gamespot Hands on, the game will be released as a free experience on the PSN later this year. We contacted SCEI, and they said
"Yes, it will be free for download on the PSN, and we are thinking of charging---but doubt it. For now it is free."
Polyphony Digital's Gran Turismo 5 promises to possibly be the most exacting and detailed racing video game ever. The Gran Turismo 5 Prologue gives you an online-enabled sampler of the GT5 experience. In the Prologue, will be dozens of different cars, and a few variety of environments to explore before the official games grand debut.

Well the plan was always originally to have two GTs one with all the cars installed and a downloadable version which required you to buy the cars. People innitially came out against the idea and micropayments that were going to be part of the plan, Mostly because they assumed you'd have to buy each and ever car and race track individually for far more than the cost of a full game. Now that people have had a chance to explore the concept of DLC for free or for fee they have a better idea of what to expect and add to the fact thet the innitial version will be free might make the concept of downloadable car/track patches for a small fee less horrific.

Wow I woulda o totally bought this for 60$ lol. Even so thats awesome. They will proably do Charged Updates to the game like A.I., Collision Etc.. for 9.99$. So you can basically either Do a Prolouge to GT5 conversion through microstransactions OR.... Buy the FUll GT5 in one fell swoop. Thats my take on it anyway.

holy garsh this is sooo retarded. its not a free game. its called a demo. thats like saying you can have free ketchup in a packet. they didnt call the DiRT demo a "free game." they didnt call the BioShock demo a "free game." you dont call those Orbitz pop-up games "free games." its marketing. you're going to get one track and a few cars. then you are going to have to buy the game becuase you beat the "prologue" and now want to advance to the real dookie.

Marketing indeed! But not only marketing, but clever marketing. Of course SONY's real goal is to appeal to more potential customers to purchase the console - which will definately work. The PS2 owners who loved GT4 but still don't own the PS3 will find it hard to resist. Call it a demo or a prologue or whatever - but it's more sales for SONY. This festive season, I predict even stronger console sales than the price cut sales improvement for the month of July - because more games are coming out - and of course, for those that will have spent all their money on the console, get it with a free taste of GT5. Good stuff!
